Hmm that's interesting. I haven't even thought about that. I'm sure he'll be able to pass a physical but that brings up a very good topic of discussion. Imagine all this holding out and other shit and he's finally given a chance to play and given a chance to get paid and the fucker doesn't even pass the physical. Wouldn't that be some shit??
But not that at all surprising given how this has played out. What if he's really holding out cause he's hurt or so overweight that he can't pass the physical? At the beginning of training camp those that come in overweight or can't pass the conditioning test are put on the PUP until they're back in shape but you have 4 or 5 weeks to get back in shape. But not sure you can put someone on the PUP after the season starts. although since he hasn't signed yet, PUP may still be an option???

Unless the new team could work out a big deal with the agent, this would basically be a rental, correct? I just can't see why a team would want to rent a me-first guy that may or may not be in shape. Maybe for a very late draft pick.

If it's a team like the Colts or Packers who are in desperate need of a RB, I could see them signing him long term. But it obviously depends on his performance and how he shows up for the first game.

If the Steelers hang onto him and deal with him after he reports, they will be compensated with a 3rd round comp pick in the 2020 draft when he leaves in FA this winter (best case scenario). I'm guessing they would settle for a 4th or 5th rounder in the 2019 draft as long as it's not a trade with a contender in the AFC..... Tampa or Indy would probably make sense.

Would we be open to trading Bell for a defensive player straight up? LB, CB or safety? If so, who would that player be?

CB or Safety.

If Jets want him, then I'd try to get Jamal Adams. Very doubtful they'd be willing to do that.

Earl Thomas would also be worthwhile.

I thought about trading straight up for Earl Thomas but ultimately changed my mind about him because he's another guy who was holding out for a contract. At least he showed up though.

The Steelers could afford Thomas' contract demands though. He wants $9-10m per year base. Prorate that with bonuses to get him what he wants.

That's true. And we sure do need the help in the secondary.

The team that make the most sense to me...TB, if they can hang around the top half of the NFC, a rental such as Bell could get them into the playoffs. The same could've applied to SF if they hadn't loss their QB. IMO, the Jets really don't make any sense to trade unless they feel they can and will offer him more than anyone else.
