Hmmmm, well, maybe. I guess time will tell if a 3rd contract would have been a good move. Either way, I don't think it excuses some of his antics, with the latest being his missed practices and explaining it in such an unprofessional & team-last kind of way.

Can't say I'm happy with his antics this past week.

I get that he sees this as a year where he is losing earning potential but at some point he has to accept the reality of the situation.

We should have resigned him before it got to this point.

I think they were going to do what ever they could in the offseason but before it got to that point he pulled that stunt in Dallas.

Hawks have Stated repeatedly they do not work on a guys contract with two years left. Before his 2nd to last season ended he pulled a pretty selfish stunt that was very disrespectful to the Fans, Coaches, FO AND Earls team mates that played for the Seahawks.

That has been stated in a few articles that it bothered them. rightfully so, he was a seahawk with more than a YEAR on his contract still.

At this point, Thomas. is set on making this a circus until he gets what he wants. I generally side with the players on these kind of situations, especially one who's given as much to the team as him, but the way he's handling it is pretty immature.

That being said, he's put his foot in the ground on how it's going to be, and to his credit, he's playing amazing. I know the Seahawks are concerned about precedent and all that, but you have to do something. Either he's going to be a part of your future or not. I don't think it's good for the team to carry this on for another 29 games with a franchise tag looming. My personal hope is that he's re-signed, but if they don't want to dish out that contract for a player going into his 30s, then find a trade partner and move on.

They are trying to. Would you take just a mid to late 2nd for Earl Thomas? i mean you say he should play 4 more years at this level in another post. What is that worth? Well to the Hawks it's worth more than a 2nd and that tells you how they value Earl. They Value you him VERY HIGH but they did not value the stunt he pulled in Dallas Last year when he still had 2 years left on his contract and they were fighting for their Playoff lives.

I would bet everything i own that if Earl had it to do all over again he wouldn't pull that stunt. I also believe he would have then been resigned.

Part of the problem for the Hawks is that ET's current & recent behavior is hurting his trade value because other teams know he's being a pain in our ass, and we may be forced to take a bit less than market value to rid ourselves of the problem. ET at 26 and 3 years of team control remaining is a totally different story than 30 y/o ET in the last year of his deal and acting like a selfish baby.

Heh. Nah, I want picks. We are rebuilding the roster to a large degree, and picks is what we need to do it right.

Plus, Bell would get like 1 ypc behind our line. His style of sitting back and waiting for a hole to open up just wouldn't work.

He has proven he can still perform at a very high level. give him a contract. if he is still refusing to sign something reasonable, i think we let him play out his contract and let him see what he can get on the open market.

i think it will be a LOT less than he wants.

Yeah we need picks too. Unfortunately, we probably won't get much for Bell. I'm hoping for a 2nd, but I honestly think we won't get more than a 3rd. Earl Thomas, last night, showed how much the Seahawks need to sign him. Great play on that INT.

Earl made some good plays yesterday, no question. I'm just not sure if those plays cannot be made by someone else if he isn't here. So far the defense is playing a lot better than what the doubters were giving it credit for, and we have some unknown guys making good plays every week. I remember being told the secondary was now going to be terrible because the LOB was dead, but it hasn't looked that way through 3 games. The D certainly isn't where it was a couple years ago, but it also hasn't proven to be "bad" or even close to it.

I guess I'm thankful ET is at least playing right now. Glad it's not quite as messy as what is happening in Pittsburgh. Pretty odd....

Yeah with the non-practice raise the stakes, Earl has made me glad I'm not the one making the call on what to do with him.

Plus, he would want more money that what we're not willing to pay Earl... We're basically looking to trade him for picks and not commit to a large contract... We will be needing to give RW a contract next year so I don't want to commit to a large contract to a Safety or RB...

Griffin has been phenomenal while replacing Sherm... Mingo has been a stud as well... Our scheme fit's his style excellently...

Yeah, I think you are right with Mingo. My son said the same thing yesterday at the game.

Shaquill Griffin is fantastic. He doesn't give up much, but if there is a completion then they're tackled immediately with pretty much no chance for YAC. McDougald has been an impressive tackler in the open field as well.

If the Seahawks don't plan on re-signing him, then yes, I think it's time to take what's on the table. I mean, this has essentially gone for 8-9 months now. He's an elite talent, and has proven that. If the going rate is still a 2nd, I doubt that's going to change with a few more INTs.

I'm not advocating trading him, but if the team isn't planning on keeping him long term, I think they need to end this whole song and dance one way or another. It can't help the team to have this be the dominant story line every single week.

Fully agree with your last statement by the way. Had Earl not gone in the locker room and then doubled down on his antics this summer, I think he would have gotten the contract.

His rate will go up as soon as a contender loses a Safety. His play also will make it go up if again a contender loses a safety. KC if their offense comes down to earth ( And they will ) will offer the same as Dallas and if Berry can't return asap that might just jump to a 1st and then some. Dallas 2nd might be the 35-45th pick in the draft if they continue to suck but with Thomas there he can give them another 2 to 3 wins on the season. Hawks need to play this out. IE wait till the need is bigger ( good chance of that ) or just franchise his ass for the next two years.
