for roughing the passer at such an alarming clip, then they need to call QB’s in the grass more frequently as well.

Not that I want more flags, but i’m sick of seeing flags thrown on defenders who are paid to get the Qb for what looks like common football plays, but a QB can run 15 yards backwards to avoid defenders and simply launch the ball 30 yard out of bounds. Or, the QB can bounce off guys, fall to their hands, bounce back up, scramble around and avoid a sack with no risk of penalty.

At this point, you might as well make the QB down if he is touched by a defender. Theses bail out calls are so frustrating to watch.

If I was a DC I would tell my players to hit them with their shoulder and try to knock them down. Obviously it wont always work but its better than giving up 15 yards for being in their personal bubble.

They need to just go all of the way and give them a belt with two flags attached and call it a sack if someone is able to detach one of the flags. No touching the QB at all, and of course, no eye contact.

Let’s just get it over with and have the QB’s wear red jerseys and flags and be done with it already. :mad2:

Maybe.

Think about it. If you run top speed into someone, wrapped them up with your arms to take them to the ground, it is virtually impossible to not have your feet leave the ground. It will always look like driving the QB to the ground.

If you put them in the grass it is a 15 yd penalty
If you put them in the grasp you have to stare down the official with pleading eyes to call it before you get a penalty for being in the QB bubble for too long.

In short. the QB sack record is now safe forever!!!!

Flag belts actually may be the best option.
Until then, they need to do 2 things:
1 - Make the flag thrown for roughing the passer actually be a flag signalling a review to determine if it was roughing the passer. Maybe calmer heads will prevail.
2 - Call "In the grasp" much quicker.

Make it like baseball. If you tag the QB behind the los, he is out (down).

Maybe get rid of offensive holding on pass plays to make it a little tougher to touch the QB.

Then seal it with a kiss
