It's that time folks, we're finally at gameday

thus far we really don't know what to expect as it all hinges on Rypien who's never been consistent in his career we need a good year from him. Overall we've never been consistent under Harsin, we are always up and down...it's time for some consistency

Back on the Rypien thing, he's going to hold the keys to our whole season. Thus far from what I've seen we need a good passing game to win against this schedule, Troy has some very good defensive tackles so it will be up to Rypien today. Mountain West play looks like we'll need to pass well there too, Utah State displayed a fantastic run defense last night but they were able to be taken advantage of in the pass. San Diego State held Bryce Love to 29 yards but they still lost because Stanford passed all over them.

Should be interesting, hopefully it's a good ride this year. To say I'm nervous is an understatement.

Game #1 was a rousing success, it went better than I could have even imagined. Rypien was fantastic, the receivers played well and we didn't even have Octavius Evans who was expected to be our top receiver. Defense was dominate, forced 4 turnovers and Horton took two back for a TD, the turnover throne has apparently caught national attention...the nice part is one of the reasons it got attention is that the defense played well.

Some things to clean up though, our punt returning was messy and we even fumbled once allowing Troy's only score of the first half. Running game wasn't great but that didn't surprise me too much, Troy has some really good players on the interior of their dline so I expected that entering the game.

We need to keep it up though, our schedule is tough.

Oklahoma State will be a tough test in a couple weeks
Wyoming is tough to play against at that elevation
San Diego State always plays us tough and their run defense is very good
Nevada is to be determined but they put up 72 the other night
We haven't beaten Air Force on the road in years, if ever
BYU beat Arizona and they look to be improved
Fresno State will be strong again
Utah State's offense put up 31 on a very good Michigan State defense and shut down their run game, Utah State nearly upset them

Harsin is our coach for the foreseeable future, he's getting better at figuring some things out but what is frustrating is it seems like every year there's one game where he and is staff get so badly out-coached. Yesterday it happened on the big stage, Oklahoma State had new wrinkles and everything while we had nothing, it was tough to watch

The special teams nonsense was the most frustrating part. When you get 2 punts blocked in one game, something is off base there.

Hate to say it (because I think this year's team is really good), but that was the first time since maybe Baylor in the Cactus Bowl where I felt like the opposing team outclassed us from a talent standpoint. Maybe Oklahoma State is just a lot better than I thought. I knew they'd score some points, but we got straight bullied on both sides of the line.

Yeah, I think Harsin is what he is. He can recruit well, he knows the program and he's a good enough coach to beat most of the competition we'll face. But he's prone to getting out-coached at times and always seems to have 2 or so games a year like this (even in wins against bad teams).

Agreed, unfortunately it is what it is.

Another thing I've noticed is Avalos is mostly a good defensive coordinator but he CANNOT for the life of him figure out what to do defensively against the wide open Big 12 offenses. I can easily point to the two worst coached games of his career, the bowl game against Baylor and last week against Oklahoma State where the defense just looked helpless out there.

He likes to play the prevent defense in big games, instead of getting after the QBs he wants to line check everyone.

Which is basically playing right into those offenses, sure they'd like the big plays but when they're most dangerous is when they can get their QB comfortable by throwing short to mid-range passes and controlling the tempo by running a lot of plays...literally we give those offenses exactly what they want

Nice to see them rebound in Laramie. It's unfortunate that they played so poorly in Stillwater, because I don't think that Oklahoma State team is even that good. That was a really winnable game. Oh well.

15 point favorites over San Diego State this week. I haven't followed SDSU that closely, but that seems high for a Rocky Long team.

The line is way too high for sure.

It's especially disappointing because I feel like our coaches really cost us that game, They were so badly outcoached, and it cost us our entire season.

San Diego State is dealing with a lot of injuries, Chapman is hurt and so is Juwan Washington who was on a tear before being hurt.

San Diego State struggled with Sacramento State and needed overtime to beat Eastern Michigan so I think that's what made the line so high.

That being said it is a Rocky Long team and they will cover at least

We’re dealing with a lot of injuries too though to several of our best players. And I see very little drop off from their #1 RB and QB if any at all.

Yes not having Horton has hurt, we pretty much haven't had Moa all year. Evans finally got a catch this past week, he still hasn't been at full strength.

And don't forget Jabril Frazier. He was in street clothes in the second half. His injury did not look good. The man's an absolute stud and easily one of our best players on either side of the ball. Curtis Weaver our other badass on the D line got dinged too so we'll have to see about him.

Had alcohol assisted memory loss when it came to those injuries. So far haven't seen anything all week about them either. Big losses if they're out.

You're on the East coast, aren't you? That sucks, especially for sports. You have to wait all damn day into the afternoon for the games to start and then stay up until 3:00 in the morning to finish the night games. That's ridiculous. This game started at 12:30 here locally in Phoenix for me. I hadn't even started drinking yet when it was on because it was still too early in the day. Different story though if you live on the East coast.

Yes I'm all the way over here. I don't mind waiting for the games to start, gives me time to get crap done so the wife doesn't complain. I'm a night owl on weekends so I enjoy having games late into the night....however, I make up for that by being the old man I am and going to sleep early on weeknights so weeknight games really do suck for me, I don't catch the 2nd half of most primetime NFL games and that late Thursday night game against BYU a couple years ago was brutal.
