CHRIST!

The fuck are we letting a top 2 safety in the NFL (who should be able to play for another 4-5 years given his position) go for a 2nd round let alone 1st round pick...

And we give Lockett $10M per but can't resign Thomas? THE FUCK is this FO thinking!?

I hope the FO was paying attention and gets ET signed. He's a difference maker.

Agreed 100% Besides the value that you're going to get in return for him is not going to match his talent. NFL teams have made that pretty clear. Just give him a contract and make both sides happy.

I hear ya, I doubt anyone is gonna give up a 1st round pick, Dallas already had that chance... So why weaken the team dramatically by letting him go ? He still looks as good as ever, hasn't lost a step... Probably has another good 4 years of football left, knowing Earl maybe even longer...

Running up to the other team and telling them come and get me in front of the cameras is about as unprofessional move as they come.

Being a major pain and the ass in practice and refusing to participate is detrimental to the team

Will giving into Earl's demands set a dangerous precedent?

Earl is becoming a cancer. Does Earl really want to be here?

Good play on the field does not change any of the above concerns.

Earl is under contract, if he wants a big payday, he needs to have a monster year. So let him have his monster year. Come off season, tag him, then decide if you want to sign him or if he is even wanting to be signed, or trade him. Earls Tactics are the problem, if he dealt with this in a more professional manor, he would already have his extension.

i think Earls performance in the first 3 games this season also says "Listen up i am worth MORE than a first". Going to take a 1st and a 3rd or MORE from a team that wants him.

The comments about not practicing if he has a headache or "anything" make me not want him here. How does that impact the younger guys? It puts the coaches and FO in a really difficult position as well. I want to be done with that crap on this team.

I see a lot of comments on the "precedent" nature of his holdout. To me, the flow chart for that is pretty simple:

Do you want to hold out? Yes --> Are you willing to go to the extremes Earl is? Yes --> Are you as good as Earl? No --> See ya.

To me, it's that simple. Rewarding Earl after his antics doesn't mean that the backup TE is going to feel empowered to pout and sit out practice because he wants a new deal. These things happen in the NFL, and I don't think you can take a hardline stance that you'll never reward a player who holds out.

I wish Earl wasn't doing what he's doing, but at the end of the day, getting rid of Earl doesn't make the team better now or 4 years down the line. It's not like he's lost a step. The guy has barely practiced since last year and he's playing the best football of his life.

It's not just about holding out though. Now he doesn't want to practice at all if his tummy hurts or if he is feeling a bit sad. Do we fine him for that? If not, do we let Tedric Thompson not practice also without a fine because he bit his lip and doesn't feel 100%?

I agree in theory, but Earl gets away with it because he's one of the greatest FS of all time. I'm not excusing it or saying it's right, but it is what it is. If Tedric Thompson decides to start doing that stuff, he probably gets cut. If Earl's play was declining or it wasn't worth the headache (no pun intended), he'd probably be shipped out for a 2nd or 3rd round pick by now.

I totally get all that and don't disagree, but it gets right back to the point I'm trying to make: do we want ET to be here modeling behavior that will result in a much greater consequence for a guy like Tedric Thompson? I don't want TT to think he can get away with it (because I agree with you that he cannot), and I'm also not sure I want someone else causing that sort of dichotomy or "Jordan Rules" effect on the team right now when we're trying to re-make or "turn" it. There has to be some sort of limit on how much BS we are willing to put up with from prima donna players.

WINNER!!!!

I don't want to sign him... I don't want to give a max deal to a safety who is pushing 30 years old... I prefer to trade him... This isn't the year we're going to make a SB run...

I think ET isn't practicing because he doesn't have a contract. We've never had an issue with him practicing in past years, have we?

Yeah, it's tricky situation for sure. And to Earl's credit (maybe not the right term, but you know what I mean) he might have successfully forced the Hawks hand here.

I'm repeating myself here, but I think they just need to decide one way or the other. This whole thing is getting out of hand.

Yep, he outright said as much yesterday to the press. If he got a new contract, he'd be out there. Says he's going to "protect himself" until then.

One of the few times I agree with a player acting this way. FUCKING PAY this guy. Look if we didn't give a $10M per year contract to Tyler fuckin' Lockett I'd be a little less on ETs side, but REALLY!? We have $10M per to pay Lockett and have plenty of cap room next year but can't lock up the best FS in the NFL and one of the big reasons our defense ticks not to mention what he'd bring for a VERY young secondary and overall D in practice?

Ugh. Absolutely disgusting by Seattle's FO.

I am not sure how the 2 situations are all that similar. ET is 29 and in the last year of his 2nd deal and didn't show up to work as required with everyone else the entire camp. TL is 26, was in the last year of his rookie deal (that was paying him peanuts) and still showed up. He's also scored a TD in every game so far and is on pace for 1k yard season. They decided to pay Lockett instead of Richardson, not instead of Thomas. I'm all for it.
