MS Word 2016 issue

I have this blank table set up with all the homogeneous cells in it, but when I try to select all of them with the big mouse capture (they should all turn grey), a few of the cells don't turn grey, and I can't type in these. What gives?

Sorry, I am more of a spreadsheet guy. Struggle with Word myself as well.
