He certainly doesn't seem to have the fundamentals of catching down that's for sure

I could have this wrong, but I swear that Sanchez was hyped as a great defensive catcher when he was coming up. Dude looks like he’s barely played back there before. And I certainly wouldn’t trust him catching Severino in a playoff game(I’m not sure I trust him back there at all in the playoffs to be honest).[/QUOTE]

I know this was Wednesday but just read it (how dumb do you have to be.... probably wasted but still)

- A Red Sox fan was electrocuted and died Thursday due to trying to ride the top of the Metro North train...

You have it wrong. Some folks dreamed on his pop-times, but most prospect evaluators predicted he would not stick behind the plate.

All agreed he would mash wherever he played-and he did-until this year.

I think we are back to earlier discussions where we see him as a DH with a cannon of an arm......Not sure trying him at first is ever going to be an option.....

I like my DH's over the Mendoza line, personally.

you guys win that game last night and im jittery

a sweep in NY would have done a number of things for both teams.

Would have only delayed the inevitable for you guys, but it would have made me feel better about playing in the Bronx on October 3rd.

You know you're playing on October 5th, at least. Hope the Yanks will be invited to that particular party, but right now I have those chances at about 50%.

Guess the game at Fenway the 29th wont mean much. Oh well, I'll still go regardless. Just wonder if I'll be seeing the Pawtucket (or whatever the heck theyll soon be called) playing.

Do you blame Boone for Sanchez’s lost season at all? I’ve read that Girardi was more of a disciplinarian and kept Sanchez focused/motivated while Boone is more of a “live and let live” kind of guy. Not sure if that’s true, but I’ve seen it a few places this season.

If you told me that Gary Sanchez and Sandy Leon would have the same batting average this year, I would have guessed Leon had a career year and hit .300.

No, I don't blame Boone for Sanchez' regression, but I think it was beneficial that he had an extremely good defensive catcher as a mentor/manager. For that, I blame Sanchez-he's just too far inside his own head at this point. The line from Bull Durham "Don't think, it can only hurt the club" comes to mind.

I do blame Boone for the glaring lack of coaching this team displays on an everyday basis, however.

This. The defense was a concern but he had improved in the minors and looked like he'd be able to stick at the major league level.

MLB Rookie Report: Gary Sanchez, C, Yankees

Sickels was always higher than most on him defensively, but Law, Capel, and others were not so kind.

Law actually had him #68 on his top 100 in 2014, then dropped him off the list completely in '15 due to his defensive issues.

Yanks did just fine for years with Jorge Posada. You can be a shitty catcher, you've just got to hit.

this. I can live with that kind of defense if he's hitting as well as he did in 2017. Look at Mike Napoli, he was a really good hitting catcher who couldn't field (but at least Sanchez has demonstrated some ability to throw runners out, though Napoli didn't have the passed ball issues Gary's had). Napoli 2.0 wouldn't be the worst outcome for a career even though Scioscia tried to keep him away from the plate in favor of Jeff freaking Mathis.
