Agree, but even with those guys I can't put this group near the Rams or Vikings. Get the same pressure with just 4 guys and get some turnovers and do it against better teams for half a season and then I'll be with you.

I just have to believe the turnovers are going to come, especially when we get Irving back and Gregory gets healthy. With all that pressure , it’s bound to happen. It’s crazy though, the ball seems to find certain players. Week 1 - Pats/ Texans - Mathieu had a pick and a FRec. As good as Marcus Peters seems to be - he always gets his picks.

If Randy Gregory can stay healthy and eligible to play, and David Irving comes back and is his usual self, The Dallas Dline will be as good as any in the league. IMO they might even be the best front 4 in football come week 6-7. With everyone healthy and ready to go, Dallas can pressure from both ends and straight up the middle. DLaw is as good of a DE as there is in football right now. Irving when on the field dominates, and creates as much pressure from the DT position as anyone -- Aaron Donald included. Not to mention Antwaun Woods surprisingly good play at the 1T so far. If Randy Gregory can manage to stay on the field this year, that will give the front 4 three different guys with elite pass rush ability. Then there is the depth, I'll go ahead and say that I would stack our depth at Dline up with any team in the league. Taco, M.Collins, T.Crawford, D.Armstrong are as good of a group of reserves as you will find around the league. The Cowboys will be able to keep their linemen fresh and not experience huge drop offs in play when the back ups are in. Sure, I am biased, but I really like the construction of this group.
I love the enthusiasm, but lets not get to carried away here.

It's for real IMO. This is a top 5 defense unless lots of injuries happen. We have a plethora of lineman that can create lots of pressure. We have 3 linebackers that can cover tight ends. We have two big and fast corners. If we some how add earl Thomas then this defense is even better. The touchdown the giants scored in the 4th quarter probably does not happen if we have Earl. On that play Heath was in never never land.

I'd be extremely surprised if Seattle does an about face and trades ET3, even if they fall to 0-3. During this whole ordeal Seattle/Pete Carroll has taken the posture that they are not going to allow the player to dictate the terms. Short of someone offering up a 1st round pick, I don't see Carroll budging on this issue. I think all parties involved are going to ride this one out to the bitter end.
I agree. The seahawks are not going to budge at leaSt not for awhile. We saw the lions do the same thing with Barry sanders. The lions could have gotten better by trading sanders, but wanted too much. The seahawks are being dumb and should have taken the Cowboys offer. A 2nd rounder is fair considering how old Thomas is.

I have to agree that the defense is not quite there yet. But I do think this is the best talent on defense since the mid 90s.

Which Dline would you rather have? Top to bottom, I have a hard time finding a better group in the entire NFL - assuming Irving and Gregory are both on the field and in the rotation.

There are only 2 that are in the same conversation -- the Vikings and the Rams. Honestly I believe the Cowboys Dline is better than the Rams. The Vikings have a really good group, and would be the most obvious choice.

Edit: excuse me, three. I totally forgot about the Eagles.

without putting much thought into it.
Rams & Eagles come to mind. Vikes are no sloutch. Any team getting pressure with just a front 4. We are not doing with just 4. We do it with scheming.
but more importantly. your comment on Aaron Donald .......

I predicated my post on the assumption that Irving and Gregory are in the line up. Dallas will get plenty of pressure with just 4 with those two in the lineup.

Look at PFF's pressure stats from last year. On a per snap basis Irving is as good as any DT in football, even Donald.

That's kind of where I'm coming from. The DLine could be special, LB's have one of the best in Lee and a kid who looks like a young Derrick Brooks running around beside him. A HOF safety would sure be sweet. Worth a 2nd still IMO

I love Irving and am probably higher on him than pretty much everyone here and why I am willing to overlook his issues and resign him if he plays like I think he will and shows us he is trying to straighten out...BUT...there is no chance he is in Donald's league or even close to it. Donald gets those numbers with constant double teams. He is just crazy elite right now. But, I do think with what we saw from Gregory once he came into camp and then add in Irving and with health we could be fantastic at getting after the QB.

On the PFF topic I just saw that Byron Jones is the #2 rated CB so far. Those of you that bring up PFF a lot probably know I am not a huge fan of the way they do their numbers, but still, #2 is pretty damn impressive and I wouldn't be surprised in Awuzie is only a few spots behind him....

I'm not a huge fan of PFF's grades, but they do chart every play so I do put stock in their counting stats (e.g. number of qb pressures). Last year they said Irving was as efficient a pass rusher as you will see at the DT spot on per snap basis, in the same class as Donald and Geno Atkins -- obviously his counting stats were a little less than some others due to playing fewer games. Donald probably sees as many double teams as anyone in football, Irving sees his share of double teams as well. No disputing that Donald is the best in the business right now, but to say that Irving is nowhere near Donald's league is flat out wrong and ignores a lot of the metrics available. I'm not a huge fan of Irving but there is no denying what he can do on the football field.

Love what Donald does on the field, and Suh is great. 1-9(or 10) I prefer the Cowboys DLine group.

Byron Jones is flat out killing it right now. Don't need PFF to confirm what everyone is seeing. Awuzie is getting it done at a high level, too. Just think, these guys' jobs will be even easier in a few weeks with Irving back wreaking havoc in the middle.

we've been playing with two strong safety's and it's a darn good thing the LB's get extremely deep drops.

work in progress with regards to the DL...if the stars remain all aligned then yes....this Dline is special. Long ways before that can be said....call it the jerry factor....the curse. beats me but I'm not ready to assume jack shit at this point. Week 8 should be a good indicator with all that.

Nope, I'll say it again. Irving is NOT anywhere near Donald's league. The guy may go down as one of the best EVER.

Just heard confirmation of the rumor (from Marinelli) that Richard did indeed call the defensive plays last week. Like we really need another reason to absolutely love this guy...

We will see after this season how they stack up. If Irving stays on the field, I think he may surprise. That's really the only question for Irving at this point, is can he stay on the field? He's one of those guys that the only one who can stop him is him.

I was never making the point that Donald isn't the best. Just that if last season is the true indicator of what is to come from Irving, he isn't too far off Donald's trail. I'll just leave it at that.

I said before the year that when on the field I think he can be as disruptive as Lawrence and in stretches even more so. Even after missing 4 games I think Irving will put up double digit sacks. He put up almost a sack a game last year. I'm certainly not doubting how good he is.
