just curious what people around here use for Internet service.
I started with a local/regional company called Adelphia. They got bought out by Time Warner, around the time several of the owners were getting thrown in jail for co-mingling personal & company funds.
More recently Time Warner sold their Internet business to Comcast, who re-branded it as "Spectrum" here in NY State. That brand name might be short-lived:
New York state commission moves to kick Spectrum out over consumer complaints
The Attorney General wants to revoke their charter. I'm guessing this will be tied up in court for quite a while.
I've decided I'm going to have to switch to a different provider. My internet drops out several times a day, usually just for a few minutes, sometimes longer. (this is after a service call to address that very issue)
The only other "name brand" available here is Verizon FIOS. They have a $79.99 "triple play" plan, that comes out to about $135/month for Internet/VOIP/Cable. I can cut the cable, but that only saves about $25. Doing a google search, I found a number of smaller players, but they appear to be geared more toward small businesses.
