NFL Offensive Line Rankings – after Week 2 | NFL Analysis | Pro Football Focus

Wow, they rate no. 6 according to these guys. Sure didn't look like it against the Lions?! (i didn't see the Vikings game)

I'll take this as a good sign that this line can be better, meaning more consistency. I guess this also means those sacks are more on JG and the WR's?

The line played well. Run blocking was fairly obvious, but pass blocking was very solid too. Detroit played a lot of man coverage, and a lot of times played it better than rules allowed if you know what I mean. The receivers had a hard time getting separation, and I'd say at least 4 of those sacks were simply on JG holding onto the ball waiting for someone to break free....which rarely came.

This is pretty much how I saw it. There were times Jimmy G could have just thrown the ball away to avoid a sack. Did you see if there were any checkdown options like a running back to throw to?

There was little to nothing in regards to checkdowns...RB's were fairly well covered or in a couple of sack instances, stayed in to block.

Vikings game they can be excused. McGlinchey doesn't even know the Right Tackle position but had to move to Guard because the top two Guards got hurt. Against the Lions they did an excellent job of run blocking and in the passing game it was more Garoppolo's fear of letting the ball go than the line's poor blocking that caused the six sacks.

The only lineman who scares me Gilliam. He is awful at pass protection and he quickly gave up a sack when he was in there. I don't know what the coaching staff sees in him. When Seattle isn't interested in keeping him, you know he must be bad. I hope he never has to see the field again

From what I've gathered as the game wasn't on in my area it was mostly coverage sacks/QB not getting rid of the ball. I'm still very concerned on the interior line but hopefully they can continue to get better.
