Talk about a meteoric rise.

Didn't he play for them 2 years ago?

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like last year he got GM of their G league affiliate. They went from 26-24 the year before him, to 16-34 with him.

I guess if you can show instant success at taking mediocrity via tanking to a top lottery pick, the job is yours? :noidea:

It just seems weird, almost like they only had one applicant...Lol

How do you go from trying to steal Darryl Mowry to hiring a Dude with one year minor league experience?

My first thoughts when I saw this was real were:

Everybody is getting a max or overpaid by him.

Every team is going to try and fleece him.

I know there have been several unorthodox hirings of late.

Agents, writers etc.

But, at least those guys understand negotiating contracts and have extensive contacts.

Maybe I'm underestimating Brand.

Maybe the rest of the NBA will too and he uses that to his advantage.

Time will tell.

This is weird. He's not even an analytics guy. That would make sense. Like if some team hired Zach Lowe, I'd get it. But Lee Jenkins writes profiles. He's basically the print version of Tom Rinaldi.
Clippers are putting all their eggs in the Kawhi basket.

This makes perfect sense when you remember he is one of the few that has a in with Kawhi and his inner circle.

I actually like this. The Clippers organization is a clown car, not to be taken seriously.

This guy has connections and they are hoping he can change that impression.

The Clippers are playing the long game and could still be left holding their Dicks in free agency.

But, at least they are trying a new approach instead of letting guys like Doc continue to buttfumble.

In a way, it makes sense that Jenkins, someone with relationships all around the league and a keen eye for finding information about players, would be valuable to the Clippers. Los Angeles is heading into a season and offseason that could prove crucial for the franchise as the team tries to nab at least one of the big-name free agents on the horizon. Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant, and a handful of others will likely hit free agency next summer. Jenkins has written about and interviewed nearly everybody who will be of interest to the Clippers next year.

So, What Is Lee Jenkins Going to Be Doing for the Clippers?

Gay ass made up title.

But, I like this a bunch.

Dude will be able to tell them who is in play, and who wouldn't spit on the Clippers if they were on fire, long before July 1.

It's almost like preemptive tampering if you think about it.

But, he has connections.

I'm sure the Clippers are looking at the difference Magic has made with the Lakers due to his and Pelinka's standing with the Players.

The Clippers don't have a player like that in their history.

So, this is the only route they can take to at least secure a meeting with the top free agents.

This guy seems to have some pull.

Jenkins has earned a profile (no pun intended) as media’s preeminent NBA feature writer by getting access to players’ and coaches’ lives and producing detail-rich stories. He has also served as a vessel for players like LeBron James to deliver their message. In the summer of 2014, when LeBron decided to head back to Cleveland, it was Jenkins who penned the “as-told-to” letter.

Anyone else think the Celtics should trade for Butler?

I wouldn't give up Tatum.

But, I'd give up Brown or Rozier and parts if it meant they had a better chance to retain Kyrie.

I understand why Celtics fans would be hesitant.

I don't know about that. I don't think it makes much sense in that way. I can't see a player deciding "Yeah, I'm gonna sign with that team because they have a guy in the front office that once wrote nice things about me". The only thing that will change their perception is actually having a clearly defined path via the players they have on their roster and the avenues they have to get more players (trades, cap room, etc). Taking Doc away from that and giving it more to Lawrence Frank with Jerry West being an adviser is far more important than making up a position for a former profile writer.

I don't know.

I think this era's players are all about relationships.

Relationships with eachother.

Relationships with family, advisors etc.

Kawhi is an odd fella.

So, I don't presume to know how he ticks.

I don't think Lee was hired specifically to get guys to join the Clippers.

I think it's more about exploiting his contacts to know who is in play and who is not.

To find out what guys are on the block before the rumors go mainstream and what type of assets it would take to land them.

Outside of Billy King and the Garnett, Pierce trade, I don't know of another franchise that gets fleeced on trades as often as the Clippers.

Don't see it Mecca. I also would not give up Brown. Danny has a staggered set of contracts that line up well. Kyrie gets his max. Celtics don't really have a glaring weakness or need. Still believe the only deal Danny would jump on would be AD.

I'm confused as to why the Butler's and Kawhi's of the world are dead set against playing with LeBron.

I guess Butler's makes a tiny bit of sense of he wants to play with Kyrie and doesn't care what team they join as long as they play buddy ball.

...and maybe Kawhi thinks he's just as good as LeBron, he isn't....

But, I don't get why guys are finding the Lakers LESS attractive with a healthy LeBron.

He's still the best player. So, what is it?

Is he a douchbag?

Are they jealous?

Good point about the staggered contracts.

I don't think necessarily it's about playing with Lebron.

Guys like Kawhi and Butler are all-stars who would be undeniable #1 options on pretty much any team in the league... except for the Lakers. And maybe Golden State too.

They want the spotlight. The paycheck.

Jimmy knows he'll get overshadowed on the Lakers. In NY he'd be the man! Same on the Clippers.
