Wade left his teammates and organization guessing for four months before making his decision to play "one last dance", a particular line he stole from Phil Jackson nonetheless.

If it took him this long to come to this conclusion, his heart is obviously half way out the door and he's just playing to feed his ego at this point. But Wade doesn't care about leaving anyone hanging, because in his mind he's D-Wade and he could do anything.

Wade = The new Brett Favre.

Pretty sure his teammates knew which way he was leaning. He worked out with them several times this summer.

Leaving his teammates and organization hanging when he clearly been in conversation with both sides all summer.

So what you are saying is that the best way to do it is to be like Favre and not make your intentions known so you don't get in the way of your teams accomplishments?

I think it's fine either way. If you know it's your last season and want that known. Ok. If you know it and don't. OK. If you aren't sure and don't announce it until the season is done... ok.

Exactly. Just an attention seeking thread from the OP. Not surprising at all

This is also going to be much different than Kobe farewell season because the heat aren't tanking. They plan on making the playoffs and win a round while they're there

Torii Hunter and Peyton Manning didn't need any BS farewell tour. They didn't make their retirement intentions known until it actually happened. They weren't ones to get in the way of what their respective teams were accomplishing.

That's because Peyton Manning's play fell off a cliff his last season. Coupled with the fact he won a super bowl, it's easy to see why he chose to retire at the time he did. If he had won a super bowl and was the same Peyton Manning, he likely would've played another year or two.

And as TF12 said, comparing football and baseball retirements to basketball is dumb

Bringing up a MLB and NFL player?

You have no clue what he was thinking or why it took him so long to make his decision.

It's an individual decision and I'm sure not an easy one to make, especially since he still has a little gas left in the tank.

The NBA has afforded him a lifestyle far beyond anything he likely ever dreamed was possible. I'm sure walking away from it is extremely difficult.

Fucking hilarious (and typical) that you think you can say what a players motivation is or how he should handle the end of his career.

As I said earlier, he's earned the right to go out on his terms.

2 sports in where you don't play a road game against every single team in the league.

Good point. I hadn't even factored that in. In the NBA every team plays every other team at least twice a season. So far more NBA fans get to see the great players that aren't on their team, every season.

During Kobe's farewell season, Lakers opponents made a lot of money because more people went to the games for one last chance to see him play. And that was with a terrible team.

Combine D-Wades farewell tour with the fact that the Heat are likely a playoff team and opponents stand to make a lot of money too.

You seriously think the Heat are like "OMG what are we going to do because we don't know what Wade's decision will be?" LOL. This is one of the dumbest takes you've had. Wade is obviously on the down hill of his career and the Heat are basically giving him a roster spot because of legacy. He won't be a starter, he's not a part of their future plans and he's not an integral part of their team. Favre was a starting QB and still good enough to be one. Him holding up the team is a major hurdle versus a bench role player.

And also he's signing for the minimum. Hot damn, you're on fire this morning.

Exactly. We're not talking MJ "retiring" after the 2nd 3-peat. We're talking about a guy at the very end of his career, who was an all-time great player, can still help his team a little here and there, but isn't a player that is going to have much impact on how the season goes.

I expect his final season will be mostly average play with a fair bit of "Hey, I remember that guy" mixed in.

What makes his take dumber is Wade plays at a position where we are stacked at which why a part of me was hoping he did retire because I have no idea how these minutes will be divided

If the Heat don't qualify for the playoffs before the seasons end expect a Kobe-esque final game for Wade where he'll probably play the full 48 minutes.

Certain members of this board had claimed they'd make this thread for the sole purpose of antagonizing yours truly.
Sorry, but I beat you to it...

Dwyane Wade announced late last night that he's returning this season for "one last dance".

Don't really know what his incentive is if it took him all summer long to make this particular decision. It isn't if Miami is going to advance deep in the playoffs.

Only time will tell I suppose for his reasoning.
the question is, how much embalming fluid will leak out while his corpse is on the court? :noidea:
