Here is why FSU hired Taggart.

Success at USF (Lower Florida school than Florida State)
Recruited top Florida HS players to Oregon, so FSU thought if he could recruit top Florida kids across the country, he would have no problem getting the best of the best in his own backyard. So they were banking on recruiting.

Yeah, I just remember watching games (unfortunately, many Michigan games) where they did most everything wrong, and still won the game. IMO, the win was only because the other team was so inferior to them.

I didn't watch the FSU vs Samford game, so I really don't know if that was the case.
Sam fords top defensive player was tossed for targeting. FSU was gifted a PI call that led to the go ahead TD. Non call on FSU with Samford driving late. that was much closer to PI before the pick to end it. I wouldn't say talent won the game.....

Also cant say its just taggert.Syracuse came up just short against them last season 27-24 final. FSU was a 6-6 team that needed wins against Delaware St and UL Monroe to gain bowl eligibility.

Except for Syracuse beat Clemson last year and are actually pretty good compared to previous years

This - I predicted earlier that 'Cuse would take down both FSU and Clemson this year. While this is not necessarily great for the ACC, it's just my gut feeling. The 'Cuse QB runs Dino's system pretty darn well. He just has to stay healthy to do it.

His play calling sucked at Oregon too. The only teams Oregon beat they just had a lot more talent than. The only reason people thought he was a good coach was because he was being compared to Helfrich who let the players do whatever they want.
Sounds like Butch Jones 2.0 - had success at CMU and Cincinnati but in over his head at a higher lever. Great recruiter but couldn't develop it worth a shit. Play calling was also predictable and horrible.

He was headed to Colorado before Tennessee called at the last second. A Colorado is the kind of program he was more suited for anyway.

It was only a matter of time before the wheels fell of while he was at Tennessee.

What top players from Florida did Taggart get to attend Oregon?

That game against Florida might be one of the worst played games of the year. It will look like both teams are trying to throw the game to get a higher draft pick.

After looking at their schedule I think 6 wins will be tough.

NIU, UL, WF, BC, and Fla are the only games I see them possibility winning with most being toss-ups. With the current play, I don't see them winning at Miami, vs Clemson, at NCST, or at ND.

i do think they'll improve and get 5-6 wins, but there has to be a dramatic OL play improvement. The defense is pretty good and if the OL can give time and open some holes, the offense may actually put some points on the board.

That puts them not dropping any "winnable" games.

One thing to keep in mind why FSU is in the situation they are in is this: In each of the three seasons of Last Chance U the starting QB of the JUCO featured was a FSU transfer. That's a ton of high level attrition at just one position.

Another thing is the fact that FSU's O-line play had been declining the past few years. Even during Winston's final season at FSU it wasn't great.....they just had enough skill talent to overcome it. The next season Francois was able to overcome it, but he took an absolute beating all season long. Last year it cratered, Francois got injured and it's simply a miracle that Blackmon didn't get his skinny ass snapped in half. For whatever reason a once highly regarded OL coach in Rick Trickett simply did not develop the OL his last few years.

This year they are installing a new offensive system and dealing with a ton of injuries with an already thin OL. They have backup guards starting at tackle.

It's going to take time. Taggart needs to hit the JUCO and grad transfer market for as many bodies as he can get to play right now while signing and developing high school recruits. He's at the point where he can't allow perfect to get in the way of good.
