It's a combination of witch hunt and Meyer putting himself in an avoidable situation.

Ohio State is in a lot better position right now then when the Tressel firing occured, they just need to act fast and make the right decisions and hopefully salvage the recruiting they got going on right now. The roster talent and coaching talent is much greater currently then when Tressel departed.

Like many have said, If this happens 10 years ago it's not likely a major story.
People in positions of power are held to higher standards. Used to be they could use said power to destroy any accusers credibility.
Urbs and his wife know the Title IX rules for reporting.
One or both felt it best for dear friend Zack Smith's family to remain silent.

It also doesn't help that several years ago Meyer adopted his own zero tolerance policy for domestic issues with players. He has been pretty outspoken about it. Which I respect with the intent, but instances like this make it seem very hypocritical
