So the Sabres already have Rasmus Ristolainen on D, will probably draft defenseman Rasmus Rahlin, and just signed Rasmus Asplund a center.

Almost as good as when they had Malarchuk, Andreychuk & Hawerchuk

Fuck me sideways, that's a lot of money for Kane.

I assume Wilson wasn't high on the chances of signing Tavares.

At least we also get to bump that pick to buffalo up to a 1st. So we've got that going for us, which is nice...

I mean, Lou was the guy who chased Stamkos out of the Leafs’ interview room so fast he was calling Yzerman to work out a deal before he even left the building but hey I’m no Dreger!

“I think Lou Lamoriello landing with the Islanders is going to help the Islanders keep John Tavares, but this is just a ballpark educated guess," Dreger explained on TSN Radio 690 Montreal Tuesday. "I think that Lamoriello overseeing hockey operations maybe, you know, moves or bumps the percentage of Tavares staying to at best 50/50”.

Tavares, Moneyhands, and Backlund would be tremendous down the middle - It's not going to happen, but it's fun to dream.

I mean, I fully expect him to stay with his moribund team because the NHL is boring but there are so many teams that he could make truly great with his presence. I think both need to fix issues on the blue line first but imagine him on either Toronto or Winnipeg adding to what are already insanely-good offences? Crazy as it is, TB could make it work. Imagine what he could do alongside Tarasenko? Or centering the top line in Nashville?

This one scares me because Poile isn't gun shy when it comes to making big trades.

Also, the overly optimistic Devils fan in me likes to think we have a legitimate shot at Tavares. He would still be in the same area, they can afford him, he and Hall started training together last summer and became buddy buddy. Make it happen Ray.

Given what you said and also their state income tax sitch, I'm not sure why some places are in the conversation here above them.

One caveat - what are they doing about their goaltending? Because Rinne's gotta be done there.

I've seen NJ a lot (think I may have even said so earlier in the year) but I think if he does leave it would have to be for a win-now team. NJ does seem like they're in a better position than the Isles to win in the future but it still might take a couple of years to come together. The Isles could argue the same and JT winds up looking like an asshole for leaving whereas if he goes to a Nashville or a TB etc. I don't think there'll be many hard feelings.

Saros is more than capable. If I am Poile, I con Chia into taking Rinne and let Saros be the guy next year.

/edit Just looked at capfriendly. If Poile wants JT, he has to make this move. Rinne is a $7M albatross on their cap, and right now they only have $7.5M in space (before the bump)

//and Rinne is UFA after next season.

///PK at $9M would be a great add for the Oilers :D

I've also heard reports that JT is pretty good buddies with Travis Hamonic - Brad needs to get Lou on the blower.

Didn't you tell me Auston Matthews and TH are tight?

No, I did quote your post though saying Auston should come to Calgary because he doesn't like Babcock - Dubas needs to make a splash as GM with a big trade to keep his coach happy.

Now that is what I like to see:

Only 6 teams have more cap space for next season then the Leafs. $22.3M in space before the LTIR for Horton ($5.3M) and the bump. 8 roster spots open, and some will be filled by Marlies.

I just hope Dubas knows which JT to pay. . .

I think there's a good chance that the splash Dubas makes will come at the end of next season if the Leafs don't get past the first round again.

Story time? I didn't hear this.

Vegas will have 30m ish in cap space. I have seen discussions about them going after both JT and Erik Karlsson.

Didn't you tell me Auston Matthews and TH are tight?

No, he's best friends with Zach Werenski, so when he tires of Babcock he will come play for Torts.

wait...

I think this guy is a beat writer for the Sharks...

NMC? So they won't even be able to pawn him off in the next expansion draft if it all goes to shit?

Shrewd.

It wasn't just Lou - Shanny, Babs, the mayor of Toronto and the CEO of Canadian Tire were all there too for the pitch but the story went that the meeting didn't go very long and Stamkos' people were finalizing a deal with TB pretty shortly after.
