Why If KC is retained? You have the vet backup Qb and you have Suds as the developmental guy. If KC is not retained and we don't pick up a QB in FA then that is a different story.
why ? are you sure suds will be anything ? colt is a journeyman as well

We just used a 6th round last year on him. You can t give up on him. Now you want to burn a 5th on another QB. The talent level would be the same. It doesn't make sense.

you bring in people to compete . i dont expect late round guys to be much more then fliers . Suds didnt appear to me before or after the draft that he would be anymore then a clipboard guy for 2 or 3 years and then be cut for another

bring a guy in , maybe an injured chad kelley , bring him in and let him compete with suds . the winner stays on the active roster the loser either gets cut or moves to the PS depending on which guy

it isnt giving up on anyone

You draft one in the later rounds only if he is a good value. You don't take one for the sake of taking one. There will be plenty of UDFAs that can fill out a roster. But if one falls that you deem has potential and is there with your 5th, 6th or 7th, then take him. Competition is a good thing and will only make whomever wins the spot better.

Suds would have been a 4th round pick in this draft. The guy has a good arm and size. He just needs to work on mechanics. I would stay away. We need depth at a lot of positions why waste a draft pick.

Why cant you? Maybe hes been awful. Worst case you cut the lesser option.

How so? IMO this is a much better QB draft.

I disagree. These QB's are all over rated b/c of need

Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State

Says who? I would take any rating on the web w/ a pound of salt. I don't think that any of those guys or anyone here has worked as an NFL talent scout so I would be very leery. Take a look at this predraft report on Prescott. It certainly doesn't sound like they were touting him & they projected him in the 4th or 5th round & compared him to Tim freaking Tebow. It sure doesn't sound like they were projecting him as the NFL rookie of the year or even leading an NFL team this early in his career.

I really don't think that most folks - especially those who don't do this for a living - can project the future success for most QBs in the draft.

1). If a long term deal is agreed upon then drafting a QB this year would be a wasted pick.
2). SoCal unless I read this CBS report wrong, Dak went where he was projected to be drafted.
Also, the profile was very positive expect for the police report. These 2017 guys are probably overrated, just like Dak will likely look like a 4th rounder next year. Not saying for his career, but next year could be tough.

I'm with you. If they retain Cousins drafting a QB is a waste of a pick, a pick that could land them a position player. It's too early to start developing a QB behind Kirk, you make him your starter, you find a veteran backup and you see what you have in Sudfeld (which I believe is nothing)

you arent developing him for KC , you are seeing if you can get a higher pick in the future . same thing you would be doing with suds

the packers did it with several qbs

Yeah I went over all of those picks/QBs. On the ones that worked out they really didn't get that much of an upgrade from the original spot where the QB was picked. And those are the hits, they pissed away a ton of picks on QBs that didn't hit. We can't afford to simply be spending picks like that, we need to try to find players now not players that MAY turn into a pick a round earlier in 4 years.

i dont see late round picks that will often turn in players that we can use . you take fliers on those guys . at this point if you ask me who is the better prospect suds or say chad kelley i would say kelley and hence i would spend a late rounder on him if i didnt have better options

I hope that you are correct about Dak for this year. I know that Prescott was drafted in the 4th rd. What I am stating is that if anyone knew that Prescott would have even a fraction of his current success he would have been drafted much higher (maybe higher than Goff). I am just stating that nobody really thought much of the guy.

This whole process is a crapshoot & save for the can't miss guys like a Luck you can't really project these guys or call them overrated. Too many successful QBs not taken early in the draft & off the radar to put much stock in any of these reports especially since a lot of these so called experts don't know much more than people on these forums.

If they don't sign him long-term and only place the tag on him they absolutely have to draft one

True, But you need to draft guys like you expect them to beat out the current starters. You are not going to hit on all of them, but throwing away picks on guys who have no upside or role in your scheme is not how good teams are built. See NE Pats.

I'd be willing to bet that our hit rate on our picks rounds 4-7 is in the bottom of the league for the last 10-15 years. Look at this list of bums....2005-2013. Pathetic...I can find a handful of real contributors here..and most weren't very good. Alf is probably one of the best out of the bunch...and we didn't resign him :tsk:
