Why not, his contract is up and his skills have diminished to the point that who is going to sign him. He is smart enough to realize this and walk away.

Since hitting 3 homers in a game on July 25 of last season, A-Rod has hit 17 HR in roughly 450 PA (99 in August, 114 in Sept, plus however many more in July, not looking at individual boxes). I don't know if anyone will give him another 450 chances to get to 714. He's basically going through the same thing that happened before his last suspension. His body is shot.dont forget 6 mil for hitting 714 homers (18 more) doubt he makes 755
I thought Teixeira retired 3 yrs ago. He will be missed by exactly no one nor should he. It's been difficult to watch a guy who was once a really good hitter who hit it to all fields with power turn himself into this. He came to NY thinking he had to hit 80 hr's / yr and ruined himself. This is one Yankee fan who's happy to see him go.
he has a shitload of them I'm sure. Still, he is not going to be remembered as anyone who made a difference in NYI'm sure his dollar bills will be soaked in tears after reading this post.
