you know whats funny beantown.

the governments SLAM these online sites as fraud and scam. that they cheat the players on casino and sportsbook and racing and poker. do you know what the average hold is for an online book?

4% to 5%

we have our own government website www.playnow.com run by the province. you know what their hold is

40%

fuck me who is criminal

Isn't it legal to play on poker stars, full tilt, and other online sites there? I thought it was because I believe Ultimate Bet and Titan poker are Canadian based sites (Kahnawake).

Canada's good like that*.

- possession of small amounts of weed are apparently OK... like even up to 5 plants in your home. It's the commerce aspect that's illegal
- downloading music / movies / etc. Not illegal to download, but it IS illegal to upload (originate for sure, don't know about just hosting)

Listen I am probably on yours and Beantowns side of this argument here, but I certainly wouldn't call Eloco a dipshit. He has been the most rational voice in this debate and has made some good points.

I disagree.

You're right - calling me a dipshit is much more rational than the cogent argument I laid out that insulted nobody.

Interesting message at Full Tilt. I logged in b/c I was curious what they would say...

Full Tilt Poker™ Supports Poker Players And Its Chief Executive

Dublin Ireland (April 15, 2011)- Full Tilt Poker is saddened by today's charges against its CEO Raymond Bitar and offers its full support to Mr. Bitar and Nelson Burtnick.

Online poker is a game of skill enjoyed by tens of millions of people in the United States and across the world. And, Full Tilt Poker remains as committed as ever to preserving the rights of those players to play the game they love online.

Mr. Bitar and Full Tilt Poker believe online poker is legal – a position also taken by some of the best legal minds in the United States. Full Tilt Poker is, and has always been committed to preserving the integrity of the game and abiding by the law.

"I am surprised and disappointed by the government’s decision to bring these charges. I look forward to Mr. Burtnick's and my exoneration," said Mr. Bitar.

Unfortunately, as a result of this action, Full Tilt Poker has decided that it must suspend “real money” play in the United States until this case is resolved. However, Full Tilt Poker will continue to provide peer-to-peer online poker services outside of the United States.

About Full Tilt Poker

Full Tilt Poker™ is the host of a worldwide virtual poker cardroom service. It is not in the business of betting or wagering and does not participate in the games as a player. It merely provides a service to those who wish to test their skills against others for fun, prizes or money. It is duly regulated and licensed by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission. With innovative graphics, superior customer service and a safe, secure interface, the software is geared to enhance and personalize the online poker experience. Although virtual poker is legal where the games are hosted and played, it may not be legal where individual players are located.

could this be a move to clear the largest incumbents from the US's biggest markets prior to legalisation.

Many of the poker sites complied with the law initially in the late 00s, then probably saw their profits go to shit, and found another way around it through eChecks. I would guess it just took time to build the case, but I have no idea.

I play online 3 Card Monty. I havent won yet, and took quite a beating on occasion, but my luck will turn around. The thing about online card gambling is that because its done with computers its impossible to be cheated.

:)

Other bonuses from playing online:

I don't have to drive 1-1/2 hours to the casino
I don't have to stack my chips
The poker site counts and keeps chips total for me
The poker site shows me how big the pot is
I can mute anyone I want from the chat
It's easy to keep notes on other players
And most important of all, I can watch the hockey game at the same time :whoo:

Negatives:

I can't punch the stupid donk who flopped nothing yet called every bet to the river and hit runner runner to win the hand (not that I punch people at live games, but I wish I could sometimes)
When you win, it's not cash in hand, you have to withdraw and wait for the check

Honestly, after reading this tread, it just looks like a lot of people bitching because they can't engage in their favourite illegal activity anymore. Kind of similar to when the gov't shut down illegal downloading sites.

If you want to argue that the laws on gambling should be relaxed, I complete agree with you. But they aren't yet. I sympathize with you if you've lost some money because of this, but was law enforcement just supposed to ignore this? Gambling in the USA is regulated, and these companies were obviously trying to get around that. Of course they're going to get busted eventually.

You should definitely look into the history of cheating in online gambling. There's been some major scams.
