Another thing about it, is that the playoffs don't identify the best team in baseball. They identify which team can win eleven (or 12) games in October the fastest. It's for drama, so fire it up, I say.

If you want to identify the best team, do away with divisions and equalize the schedules and at the end of the season, AL vs NL.

No doubt about that.....More specifically, its usually about the hottest pitcher or 2...I watched Kenny Friggin Rogers carry the Tigers through a postseason because he decided to become Sandy Koufax for 2 weeks of his life

LMAO!.........GFY....Dont even know who I want to play.........First and foremost i wanted to avoid Kuechel, but the way the Stros are going, he wont be able to pitch that game, I assume he would have to pitch this weekend........Garret Richards the Yanks have slaughtered, so maybe thats who I want to see.......I expect Tanaka or Severino to be great, but when the Yankees dont hit, it doesnt matter...Girardi wont move Gardner and his sub .200 average since the break from the #2 hole, makes me wanna kill someone

The Angels are on fire right now. I'm not sure you want to see any of Trout(or Pujols) in an elimination game. I would think HOU would be a pretty good match-up for the Yankees.

BTW, Cashman really surprised me at the deadline this year. I couldn't believe all of: Hamels, Cueto, Price, Kazmir and Tulo got traded and none ended up on the Yankees. George never would have allowed that in the past. The Yankees with Price would be scary right now. Maybe we have to wait a few months to see that instead. I thought Tulo to the Yankess would have been a good move, too.

Ladies, please...the only way to solve this is to go to eight divisions.

Mets/Jays has been my prediction since about early August...I hope im wrong on both

Hey! I thought I was being original with that prediction. I do think those are the best 2 teams right now...
Toronto's pitching has some question marks, though.

I had no problem with Cashman not chasing the big fish for a rental like Cueto or Price, because it was costing them Severino and Bird/Judge, and Bird has totally saved their season since Tex went down....I cringe at the thought of who would have replaced Tex at 1st base if Bird was traded...Im not convinced that they are in better shape with Price instead of BOTH Severino and Bird........What I really wanted and I thought Cashman could have pulled off was a lesser trade for a Mike Leake or Kazmir, or even a Ben Revere....I thought those were very gettable pieces without giving up one of their big 3 or 4 guys

I like the emphasis on the division, but you have years like this when the Cards/Cubs/Pirates are probably winning most divisions in baseball, outside of their own

I'm with you 100% on this year being fucked up. To me, the Cards, Pirates and Cubs are clearly the best teams in the NL and it sucks that two of them have to go against each other in the WC game.

However, if you went back overt the last 20 years or so, and apply the two WC format to the seasons, I think you'd find this Cards/Bucs/Cubs situation a very rare anomaly.

Maybe so, but in the AL, is anyone in better shape? The Royals are trotting out Ventura in Game One.....With the re-emergence of Dickey (Hu loves Dickey), I think they are fine...Id be more concerned with their pen......And that lineup will cover up more flaws than most teams

I would like to see the Royals knocked out in round one. That Ventura kid is a faggot.

Agreed, that team is getting a quick exit IMO.....Totally different pen than last season, and that was by far their most key ingredient last season

Good point on Bird. I was just surprised/shocked to see the Yanks stand pat while their main competition added Tulo and Price. And Severino looks very good, so far, but I am sure Cashman could have made some deals and still kept Bird & Severino. After that, you have to be willing to trade. You know better than to fall in love with prospects. Unless you still think Hughes, Joba & Kennedy are going to turn into Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz.

I was surprised they didn't get Price as well. Tulo is a dick and it was wise to pass on him.

I would trade any prospect for an established pitcher like Price. Way too many top prospects produce fuckall in the majors. Now, if I couldn't extend Price at the time of trade, I wouldn't give up a top prospect for just a rental.

Yeah, KC peaked like 2 months ago. Nobody tested them all year and now they just look soft. The AL Central isn't all that inspiring. I think TOR is the team to beat, regardless of that bullpen.

Yup. You and I have agreed on this in the past. How many prospects turn into a Price or a Hamels?? You have to be willing to move guys to get an established pitcher like that.

Severino is the real deal.........His stuff is just outstanding...Outside of a few BP appearances, Joba and Hughes never actually showed the stuff Severino has...They were more hype before their arrival than anything.......As far as Tulo and Price, Im sure Cashman would have preferred they landed elsewhere, but there was really not much he could do about that

I believe that was the sticking point....Since the CC contract, the Yankees have been steadfast in their refusal to hand out long term deals to pitchers, and it seems they are serious about it......I think if they felt they were going to or wanted to sign Price Long Term, they would have surrendered the prospects......And as Chappee said, it would have been a done deal if it was still Georges' Yankees....Hal is not his father, its quite obvious the Yanks do business differently these days.....Doesnt bother me so much YET......But when a guy like Bryce Harper becomes a FA at 25 years old, they better be in on a guy like that

Which pitchers have they passed on, though?

I don't think Sabathia's contract was too bad from the Yankees perspective.
