True dat. London Calling was the shizz nit and when it came out even Pete Townsend said that The Clash could go down as the best rock group ever (or something to that effect). Then they broke up.:gaah:

I picked up a giant picture book about The Clash for about $10 on a bargain table, and it is stuffed with interviews with the boys. They all seemed to agree that Topper's drug use and subsequent ejection from the band was the biggest reason for the breakup occurring when it did. Joe, Mick, and Paul all praised Topper as being a fantastic drummer and they thought the music was suffering without him. Frustration with that led to other cracks in the band, particularly between Mick and Paul (always figured it was Mick and Joe!), and these led to a lot of pissy behavior from Mick that then led to him being sacked. Mick not being around led to Bernie having too much influence, and the last album WAS crap due to him...leading to the death of the band.

The 70's is still by far & away my favorite decade for music...so it's no easy task in picking a favorite year, choosing a favorite artist or album of mine, let alone my favorite song....because for me personally there are literally just too too many. Wow...what a time that was.

FTR: Just wanted to add, that the 60's are a very close 2nd for me.

That is all.

Carry on.

:suds:

Yep I bought a lot of 45s until I heard the whole "Doors" first album then I started buying albums, my first album purchase was "LA Woman".

It would be easier (but not much easier) to say favorite album. Who's Next, Derek and Domino's, The Allman Bros Band Live at the Fillmore East, Lou Reed Rock and Roll Animal (Sweet Jane)

Maybe, but you didn't really hear that much of it on the radio. It was either C&W or pop for the most part unless you lived in a larger city or could pull in their stations.

My dad played it all the time...whether it was on radio or on the hi-fi record player....lol
I've since come to really appreciate it as an awesome era for jazz...so many greats.

It was really more about the last half of the 60's though. The first half of that decade was pretty sparse for good music.

No way, Motown was awesome in the first half of the 60's.
