As I've been saying all along. Before this thing is over, I have a feeling that the NBA is going to wish they had never heard of Donald Sterling.

I can't decide which made me laugh harder yesterday, that tiny lttle dweeb Silver trying to sound like a tough guy in his press conference or the sight of the ugly mug of Jesse Jackson on the court for the pre-game nonsense at the Clippers game. What a circus!

I didn't think you could top your last post for stupidity but by gosh you did it. Of course the team would not have to pay contracts to the players since the contracts were not fulfilled by the games being played by the players.
Donald Sterling may be a complete asshole but he is not Marge Schott. She was an ignorant hillbilly who inherited her money. Sterling is a smart lawyer, and a brilliant litigator, one of the most prolific this country has ever produced. He will fight this in court and I believe he has a decent shot at winning the fight to keep his team.

This post is how it looks in Toby's world: Sterling is smart and brilliant, and the darkies know they shouldn't get too uppity demanding respect as human beings.

This link is how the real world looks. This is how it's going down:

The Silver Hammer: The Banning of Donald Sterling and Unrest in These Playoffs «

Also, this link has a lot of juicy stuff about the Warriors coaching weirdness and drama. Now I'm less sure Jackson is keeping his job.

Absent a violation of NBA By Laws for owners, the league will be unable to force Sterling to sell. But the league can take many steps that would threaten to substantially devalue the franchise, thus making a quick sale of the team the right financial move for Sterling.

If he does decide to hang on, he'll no doubt sue the league for restraint of trade among other things. If he doesn't acquiesce in a timely fashion, he would certainly be throwing the hot potato back in Silver's lap since the NBA will not want a rogue team on their schedule for next season.

Stay tuned. The posturing by all concerned parties should be quite interesting, and, perhaps, even entertaining.

Good god, LOL! How many times can a guy be completely wrong in one thread? The link explains how it should be. My scenario spells out how it will be. Google Sterling's courtroom record and tell me he is not a brilliant litigator.

Toby is also smart enough to know that illegally obtained evidence cannot be used in court which is where this fiasco will end up.

I'm loving it! But don't think that little New York Jewish lawyer doesn't know his way around a courtroom as well. Silver may look faggy but he is not stupid.

Considering the subject about which we are talking, this post is even more inappropriate than it would normally be.

Wow!

Not really. I always thought he was the worst owner of the worst franchise in professional sports. Silver was bullied into making a rash decision by the players threatened boycott and I think its going to bit him because this seems to be a legal case that Sterling will win. Illegally obtained evidence is the same as no evidence.

He has stood up successfully to the NBA before and he will do it again. They told him he could not move the team from San Diego to L.A. but he gave them the finger and did it anyway. They fined him 25 million dollars but he has refused to pay.

All we gotta do is wait and see. I know which way I'd bet.

Told ya, MSKings. Told ya he was going to court to fight his ouster and I told you he was not going to pay the 2.5 mil fine either. Just like he didn't pay the 20 mil fine for moving to L.A. without authorization from the league. I know you aren't that stupid so you were prbably just arguing for argument's sake anyway.

Of course he's going to court to fight it, why not? My point was always that no matter what he does, in the end he's not going to own that team anymore.

The fine is symbolic anyway, do you think the NBA cares about the $2.5 mil? Once he's gone they won't care about whether he pays that or not.

I've also been offended by the Sterling backers (and yes that's what you and some others are...you claim to think he's a jerk but really you're rooting for him) who are pretty much saying (between the lines) that not only won't he lose his team, but that he doesn't DESERVE to lose his team. I'm sorry but how much more loathsome does a guy have to get for a sports fan to want him gone? Justice says he needs to go.

Remember too, no one is TAKING anything from the guy. They are cashing him out. He doesn't 'lose' a penny, other than the fine.

Think of it this way: some McDonalds franchise owner is such a jerk that McD's doesn't want to risk their rep so they declare his franchise is void and cash him out.

He fights it in court...while he's fighting the McDs people send him his check and stop interacting with his store, stop sending him supplies, etc. He's toast no matter what's going on in court.

Same thing here, but even easier. If it comes to it by next season and it's not resolved (I think it will be before that), the NBA can just say 'Oprah/Magic/whomever is now the owner of the LA Clippers name, brands, logo, and players. Her $1 billion check has been sent to Sterling. She is now paying the players, and they are going to play as always under the same arrangements. WE are the NBA and WE own the franchises.'

Like I said that's unlikely to be necessary but it's an option if need be.

Sterling is done.

Oh, MSG if only the world was that simple. Unfortunately the courts follow the law, not public opinion.
