TBL [F] Ryan Malone Arrested on DUI and Possession of Cocaine Charges

Lightning left wing Ryan Malone was arrested Saturday morning on charges of driving under the influence and cocaine possession.

"We are aware of the situation concerning Ryan Malone this morning," general manager Steve Yzerman said in a statement. "Ryan will not travel with the team to Washington today, but beyond that we cannot comment further at this time."

According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's report, Malone, 34, was arrested at 5:40 Saturday morning on Platt Street and Rome Avenue S in Tampa. There were no other immediate details. Malone was being held on $2,500 bond.

I don't claim to know the specifics of this particular person or case, but speaking to the topic in general: If you spend your whole young life hearing how you're different/special/better than others because you just so happen to be good at some athletic endeavor, there's always a chance that you'll buy into that mindset.

He wont' be the first athlete to throw away his career because of alcohol & drugs & he won't be the last. I just don't feel bad for any of these people. They make their own choices & have to live with them just like the rest of us.
