I'm not surprised. TB can make better use of that money. Should be interesting to see where he lands and for how much.

I would assume that Revis isn't going to get anywhere near the 16 mil a year he got in that TB contract. However, it's not like Revis is going to be some walmart bargain bin deal. He's going to cost at least 9-12 mil so I think that rules out teams like San Fran and Seattle who have much higher priorities in resigning their core young guys set to become free agents in the upcoming years.

I think a team that makes sense for Revis would be Denver. They have a fair amount of cap space to spend this off season and you know Elway is going to go all in for these next couple of seasons to maximize what they can out of Peyton for a chance at that Superbowl.

IMO His skill sets seem to have dropped off, not sure it was injury, how the D was in Tampa, lack of caring etc but he won't land some huge contract that is certain.

I agree - after Shields gets $10MM per he'd be a bargain for 2 years at $20-$22MM. Nobody will trade at $16MM but he'll get paid.

He'll land in Denver or Foxboro. If Belichick doesn't really want him, he'll up the ante and make Elway pay high. The biggest problem is for all of the CB who are free agents. If Revis is truly going to be released, no one is going to buy a CB until they find out if they can get in on the Revis sweepstakes. If he signs for $10MM or less, it'll kill the money everyone was hoping for.

What's really interesting is that Denver is offering Eric Decker the same contract as they gave Welker....$6MM per for 4 years. If they lose him, that's 1100 yards and 12 TDs off Manning's 'record' season. They haven't really made much effort to resign Moreno either. I'm not 100% sure I'd be looking at a CB if I was running the ship in Denver.

I don't see him landing here. I'd rather pay Talib.

Talib has had hip issues for his entire career, never playing an entire season.

Revis has only had one ACL season and missed a couple of games in 2010 for a hammy. This was the year he held out, with no training camp or preseason.

From a money no concern aspect, I would rather have Revis.
From a money matters aspect, Talib may be a better deal, marginally, because Revis has already proved he will hold out to chase the dollar.

They could clear enough cap to get both especially if they creative enough with the numbers.

I don't think the D in Tampa played to his strengths. You should never have DB's like Revis or Sherman just playing zone. Those guys should always be in man coverage because they can lock up every WR in football in man to man.

I could handle that at the cost of Wilfork. Dennard would be a hell of a third corner.

Of course it's not reasonable, which is why I said I'd rather keep Talib. But there's a good group of corners on the market and if Talib walks that money's pretty likely to still go for one.

Talib IMO will walk I have heard teams with cap space are coveting him and the Pats have always been cheap when it came to paying corners. They relied on the offense to outscore everyone well both Brady and the offense are incapable of that anymore. You couple that with the fact that the Pats won't pay top notch corners it equates to early elimination in the playoffs, it's cute when we are winning in an easy division but does not bode well in the playoffs.

We're not fucking around with Talib. Everything I have seen is that they are willing to pay reasonable well to keep him here. He's expensive for a reason and the difference when he went out was significant.

Supposedly we're also looking at verner:

Revis wouldn't shock me either depending what he costs.

My preference is Talib, but there are enough corners on the market that we don't need to pay completely out the ass to get a good one.

:agree:

I hope he finds the right scheme to play under. It would be a shame to see him playing zone coverage again.

That's why he's not my preference as well. Versatility is very important to this defense.

Verner is good but he is another short (5'-9" or 5'-10") corner. Pats don't need any more chort corners.

New England, Philly or San Fran, I think would be the top 3 after him.

Would love to see the Falcons make a run at him, but I dubt it.
