Confirmed.

That makes me much happier with the Seguin trade.

I damn sure hope he does better here than he did in Pitts ... and does better than Jagr. I still cant believe we spent a #1 on Jagr ... sheeesh!

Iggy is very, very hungry for a Cup and I think his tough style of hockey will fit with the B's. Ohhh ... and he does possess some finesse/puck-handling skill(s) ... along with a pretty accurate shot. The B's are in dire need of anyone with a semblance of sniper skills. I've watched alot of Iggy during his time with the Flames and he can be one tough hombre.

As a Pens fan, I think Iggy still has lots of game left. He may not have showed it in the ECF, but he did rather well for us leading up that. I think it's a good signing by the B's.

We need those puck-handling skills even more than we need the sniper.

With better puck-handling by our supporting cast Bergeron and others,
would get more and better opportunities to use their sniping abilities.
And the opposition snipers would get fewer such chances.

So let's trade a 21 year old speedster for an aging 40 year old reached his peak grandpa. IMO Jagr was slow as molasses out there, not sure iggy will be much better. The Bs are slow and bulky enough just not sure I get the warm fuzzies about this

I think Iggy is 36 ... not even close to 40 yet. He reminds me alot of Recchi.

He is still more then twice the age of Seguin, twice as slow, and has peaked, there is no upside to his game.

And only costing us 1 million base salary vs 5.75 million (for what? 1 goal in 22 playoff games?)

And I wouldnt go so far as to say he's "twice as slow".

And, oh, just for the record ... we DID NOT trade Seguin for Iginla. We signed Iginla from the FA market. If you look at the Seguin deal, we received F Ericksson and 2 prospects for Seguin.

He may not be twice as slow but he is damn sure a lot slower with a lot less upside. And I agree this is about the dollars. This was more a business move then it was a smart move. And for the record Iggy was a far cry from a juggernaut in the playoffs. And while goals are nice you have to account for how players set up other players with their play. it's not always about goal scoring. Bottom line is the team is already pretty slow up front and just got both slower and older. And not a heluva lot more productive.

In essence it's exactly what we did, let me know if you really want to argue semantics.

I really dont wanna argue period, but you have been wrong on two/three accounts ... First you claimed Iginla was 40 yrs old (he's not) ... Secondly, you claimed that we traded a 21 year old stud Seguin for the "40 yr old" Iginla (we didnt do that either) ... Thirdly, you claim Iggy is twice as slow as Seguin (he's not that slow as you claim).

Iggy coming to Boston is a match made in heaven. I just wish Crosby did not fill his head with BS prior to the trade deadline or we may have had another cup.

Iggy is the exact type of player Boston wants and needs. He still has gas in the tank and can play with anyone.

BTW someone mentioned he only had 1 point in the playoffs versus the Bruins...What did Sid and Malkin have??

I gotta agree with ya BF4L. I saw alot of Iggy while he was in Calgary and he's a scrapper ... fits our system well with his mentality and gritty, work-hard style of play, and he has not problem mixing it up with anybody on the ice, too! Sure, he's no spring chicken, but the dude has a hunger for the Cup like you wouldnt believe and has plenty of gas left in the tank. As I stated in another thread, he reminds of a Mark Recchi. It is too bad we didnt get him for the Cup run at trade deadline last year (I think he might have made a difference), but I bet he's kicking himself for not coming to Boston, instead of Pitts. I cant wait to see him in a B's uni and hope to God he can live up to his reputation while in Beantown!

I may be the only one who has this problem but when I see "Iggy"
I think of the baskeball player Andre Iguodala rather than Jarome Iginla.

Maybe, in future, posters could refer to him as "Jaro" to avoid that bit of confusion.

Thank you.

He has been known by that nickname in the NHL for years now. Pretty much everyone refers to him as Iggy.

Ohhh so I got his age wrong excuse me and I did not say they swapped players. I never said Sgeuin was a stud and I did say twice as slow if you took that in the literal sense you are an idiot. Iggy is considerably slower the Seguin and the front line is slow enough. You are wise to not argue seem you know little about the team or the game

This team will not win with Iggy getting older and slower is not what we needed. Again the Bruins got cheap is what they did. They gave a younger faster player with huge upside for an aging slower player that does not appear to be the player he once was.

Are there signature bets on this board? If so any takers? Bs do not win the cup next year with Iggy on the team

Whoaaaaaa ... slow your roll there, fella. Not trying to stir up any crap with you. I'm just stating the obvious ... Sequin was not the type of player Boston is looking for and he wasn't worth the $$$ due him. One goal in 22 playoff games does not equal 5.75 millions dollars. Cant you see that? Iggy comes with a 1 mil base salary (up to 6 mil with incentives which he might get 2 of them) ... so yeah ... I know plenty about this team. I've been an avid B's fan for over 40 yrs, so don't tell me or insinuate I know nothing about them ... ok? Fair enough?

Your unguided facts about the Iggy/Sequin thing is what kinda got me going ... and I just don't think you were being 100% factual.

Whether or not we win with or without Sequin ... Iggy ... Ericksson ... and any of the other newer guys remains to be seen. I'm looking at this strictly from a business sense ... not a sentimental sense. Iggy is cheaper ... Ericksson is cheaper and we needed the cap space to sign more important players than Sequin ... plain & simple. I think we got somewhat of a bargain in the moves PC made and I'm sure he's not done. This is a semi-tumultuous off-season for PC and he's got to be very business-savvy with who to keep ... who to let go ... who to re-sign ... and who to make trades for. It's a very difficult situation as a GM when you are/were severely cap-strapped from the rip. Losing Sequin and Pevs loosened up some much needed $$$ for this team and I think he might have made the correct decision(s) in moving Sequin/Pevs ... that's 9 millions dollars tied up in just TWO PLAYERS that did not produce when it mattered.

If you have a "man-crush" on Sequin, I certainly understand that after watching him over the last 3 years. He has much potential and we gave him two years after the Cup to prove his worth ... again $5.75 million ... do you think he's worth that keeping around and possibly not being able to sign Bergy or Rask due to cap restrictions?
