Firing Atkinson was probably the most boneheaded decision they made.

For sure. He'd be flatout stupid to turn down 47 mil.

What do you think teams would offer him if he turned it down? I'm thinking mid-level exception. I don't think he has elite player status anymore.

Not enough in long term guarantees to pass up 47 mil. I'd be shocked if got more than 15 mil per but you're probably right that's its closer to mid-level. Teams would be a fool to pay him anything long term for a big price

I'd say $15-20 million from a rebuilding team. His name is one that fans will show up for. He'll be there for every game, play his ass off and put up numbers.

I don't see a contender, at least not a real contender, being interested in him at any price.

Atlanta Hawks = "Birds Gone Mild".

:dhd:
@Robotech

I got that from TNT last night.....so credit where due.

It was the name of the fishing boat they used in a funny segment to describe the Hawks getting eliminated.

2 nights ago the boat was named "No Sweep Till Brooklyn", after the Nets got bounced in 4 straight.

Ernie Johnson, Shaq, Chuck & Kenny are a hoot...and so is their production & graphics crew.

I'm probably an idiot, but I don't get the No Sweep Till Brooklyn joke. What film, book, etc. is it referring to? The Birds Gone Mild one is hilarious.

It's a play on the old Beastie Boys tune....No Sleep Till Brooklyn.

Oh man, I've outed myself as someone who doesn't know many Beastie Boy songs. I really only know Brass Monkey and Sabotage.

All good, dude.

It's from their 1986 debut album...which also had Brass Monkey on it.
They've put out some real good stuff since...then basically broke up in 2012 after Adam (MCA) Yauch's death.

I was 7 years old then. I remember Brass Monkey being played all the time, but I honestly never heard of that other song. LOL.

You didn't fight for your right to paaaartyyyy?

I wish that I had fought that fight back then!!! I remember Brass Monkey being played all the time when I was a kid in the '80s. Looking it up now, I see that Fight for Your Right came out in 1986 as well. Now I wish that I did know that song back then as a 7 year old so that I could've made demands to my parents for more parties. I heard Fight for Your Right for the first time some time in the '90s when I saw a commercial for some CD that was a compilation of '80s music.

Back then, my dad did a pretty good job keeping me away from any music he considered questionable. LOL.
