Zimmer is free. I’m sure he won’t get hired here because zac Taylor blah blah blah

I'm a big Zimmer fan, but I think the game might have passed him by a bit. His D the last two seasons really let them down. That team didn't deliver on the talent they had on the roster.

I'm over him. I think he did an impressive job here and definitely deserved his shot with the Vikes. And he did pretty well there at the start of things, but damn did the wheels come off the last couple of years.

Bengals are likely to lose some assistants on defense - I'd take him in an assistant role - he'd probably like that after being a HC for awhile - less responsibility.

I think he's a good d-coach and Dcord, but like with many - not everyone who makes a great Assistant/Coordinator makes a great coach.

Reminds me of the Vic Fangio situation. While I don't blame Denver for going in a different direction, Fangio is an amazing defensive coach and he got a lot out of that unit. I'll be interested to see where he ends up as a DC.

Yep. Great Coordinators don't always make great coaches - Bengals have a few of those from the 90's in Coslet and Dick L.

Great coaches are always great Coordinators - Taylor is far from great as a coach, but he was very, very average as a coordinator - but he seems to manage a team as a whole much better. There are others like that - average coordinators, but seems to do better with the day to day big picture team stuff than they actually do with X's and O's.

We could possibly lose Callahan to Denver. He is scheduled to interview.

If we do, Taylor calls the plays for the most part. Maybe having Brady come in and be part of that offensive room may be a good situation for Joe.

Denver has like 10 guys they are interviewing, including Bienemy - so - nothing is set in stone there.

Callahan fits the profile of a guy that will eventually get hired. The league loves keeping things in the family and it helps him that his father has a strong reputation in the league (wasn't that good as a head guy but one of the best as a line coach). He's worked in multiple places now and has worked with good QBs.

Even if Callahan moves onto greener pastures - either as a head coach or an OC that calls plays - I bet our team would be a very attractive destination for an offensive coordinator. We would have guys lining up at the door for the position. With the pieces already in place, we're talking about a unit that should be top 5 for the next several years.... And that should be possible without having to re-think or re-imagine any sort of system or personnel (aside from constant tinkering and investment in o-lineman). So, if I'm an OC that's on the market, I'd love that job..... Easy stepping stone to a HC position.

I figured Brady's name would be too hot to continue on as a coordinator - But that Matt Rhule experience in Carolina might have really knocked some of the shine off of him and maybe he needs to rehab his image. If he isn't getting HC offers from college or pros, there would be a lot worse ideas than coming to Cincinnati, reuniting with Burrow and Chase, putting up crazy numbers and reigniting that talk about how he is an offensive genius.

Of course, the more I see Burrow and Chase and the more I think about the situations they have been in, it's entirely possible that Dave Shula would look like a good coach with these guys around.

He also had Justin Jefferson as the other WR and a healthy Clyde Edwards-Helaire at RB. That talent would be unstoppable at the pro level. Against college defenses it's unfair.

Most of that OL got drafted as well, IIRC - so at the college level, they were sporting big time pro talent. Completely unfair.

Wasn't that basically the same team as the year before? Amazing how one transfer QB can elevate an entire team into an all pro team.

Well, Joe played at LSU the year before - the big addition was Brady - that's why he was so coveted - but the reality is - all of those guys had NFL talent, and not just NFL talent, but 1st round NFL talent. Once they got a year together, and that shows how important experience can be, that's when they took off. Add in the offense that Brady ran to allow a wide open, free flowing offense.....BOOM! (RIP Madden).

Joe's Jr year at LSU was very mediocre: 57.8% for 2,894. 16 TD's and 5 INT's...Not bat but I mean, he nearly doubled his yards, 4 times the TD's (16 to 60), and only threw 1 more INT at 6. While nearly doubling his completions (402 from 219) on roughly 150 more attempts (379 to 527), good for 76.3% while averaging 10.8 YPA, and 12.5 adjusted YPA!

What that teams was able to transpire to that last year they were all there is a once in a lifetime team.

He needed to learn the system and he was also starting in college football after riding the pine for 3 years. Brady was a big addition, but the real catalyst was Burrow still.
