My pre-season fear about Pitt is coming true....this OL is not good enough to run the ball, and not good enough to protect a rapidly aging Ben. I know he's hurt, but that's the thing, he's always hurt/banged up, and with the miles on him, he just can't perform like he used to. Having Ben throw the ball 58 times in a game is not a good thing, especially when it was clear he couldn't hit downfield....5.5 YPA is simply not going to get it done. Teams will sit in the box, stack the run, and the short passing game while attacking the OL.

Yep. The Steelers offense attacks the LOS & short routes to make up for a terrible OL… It’s been happening since 2019 and they thought because they went 11-0 that they could continue to do it. They are 2-7 since then and nothing has changed.

The worst part is even if they can attack down the field when the OL suddenly does it’s job then either Ben misses a wide open receiver or the WRs just aren’t creating separation. It’s really tough to watch.

Yep.

And that was where I was shocked because Pitt has always done 1 thing well: Cut ties with aging/past their prime stars. Everyone saw the signs on the wall last year with Ben's arm, and the lack of protection. The cap created some issues to fully address those, meaning if they ran it back (which they did) Ben was going to have to tap into a 5-6year ago Ben - and his body just can't do that any longer.

I felt at the time, and still do, they should have ripped the band aid off, cut ties with Ben - use this year to get their roster and cap in shape for 2022 - and re-start. The defense is good enough, and young enough, to build around over the next 2-3 years to buy the franchise a year to get the offense straightened out. Now, they've likely lost this year, kicked the can down the road, and have shortened the window in which they could rapidly fix this to remain competing for the AFCN, IMO.

I was onboard with their plan this year with bringing Ben back. With a top 5 defense all they needed was a game-manager. And I thought a new OC would breathe some new life into the offense, but it doesn't appear that the offensive schemes have changed at all. What I really didn't like was neglecting the OL in the offseason. My offseason wish list had 1A) Fire the OC, and hire new, and 1B) Fix the OL. Well they really did neither given that this offense is still running the same plays they started running in 2018 when Randy Fichtner took over. Which tells me that this is Ben's offense, and hasn't changed even though a new voice is calling in the plays.

I still think Ben has a capable arm. His mobility & accuracy is a concern, but he's still showing glimpses of what he can do if the OL protects him. What has been scaring me the most with him is his mental processing. It appears to have taken a huge step back this year. Getting hit as much as he has in just 2-3 games has him seeing ghosts in the pocket. He's rushing his reads & the entire offense gets shortened because of that.

Surprisingly no... Pretty damn funny video though
Oh I had to listen now. Yeah that was very good. And that might be the worst insult stating the offense looked worse than even a Bubby Brister ran team.

Note: might be an insult but sadly it is true.
