Wait, so having the #1 defense in the league last season and replacing an inconsistent QB with Stafford is trending in the wrong direction?

if that is the definition of trending in the wrong direction, I think every team would be signing up to head in the wrong direction.
They went to the SB three years ago. Didn't sniff it the following year.
When was the last playoff game Stafford won? We have no idea what he can do. Don't forget I'm a Stafford fan. Wouldn't have minded him going to NE. I was one of only a few.

Rams have zero cap space for the near future, that window is very narrow as many will tell you. It's win now, come 2023 or next off season the organization will have fun trying to resign many of the current players.

Drafted Atwell which is a great pick. But didn't adress their biggest need of OL.

10 wins last season and beat a dreadful showing by the Hawks in the playoffs which I was happy for.

2019 no playoffs and 9 wins
2018 great season 13 wins and we know how that ended.
2017 another good season with 11 wins, one and done in the p/o.

Nothing here says trending up.

Steelers were 2-2 with the dynamic duo of Rudolph & Hodges and lost by 2 to Seattle & by 4 to SF....Ben was hurt in 1st half of Seattle game....
That's the thing about arguing divisions. Too many variables. All teams have injuries, all divisions have different strength of schedules. You play who's on your schedule. Hope you win most and get a playoff birth. Where the only thing that matters is a chance to win the Lombardi. 2nd is nice, but in the end only winning matters.

I agree Stafford’s PO record is worrisome, but he is an upgrade over Goff who was inconsistent.

so, they won 10 games last season with inconsistent QB play and upgrade the QB position, and that is trending in the wrong direction?

and I will just add, although his PO record is 0-3, that’s not all on him. Detroit never had a good defense when he was there, and he’s now on the Rams who had the #1 defense last season.

so, if he can’t win a PO game with McVay and that defense, then your trending down will be valid, but not until then.

Rams and Seahawks are top-heavy teams. I wouldn't say they are trending the wrong way but I do think at times last year they weren't playing up to their full potential. The Rams are the better team but last year also managed to get swept by the Niners and lost to the Jets. There is definitely room for them to move up. Seahawks are just flat-out the most consistent team in the division because of Wilson. They let go of Brian Schottenheimer so that has to be worth a win or two.

Arizona is a team that is a bit outclassed. They had that miracle play against Buffalo and then dropped 5 of 7 to end the season only scoring 20.5 points a game during that stretch and going 0-4 in the division in that stretch and 2-1 outside of the division. Nothing against Arizona but I think the other three teams are just in a different tier atm.

What's hard to understand?
3 years ago in the SB.
2 years ago missed playoffs.
Last year went to the playoffs and beat Seattle and lost to GB.

This isn't trending up.

Now if you want to add addition and losses of players and coaches the only real addition is an unknown Stafford. Consider the draft in the discussion isn't applicable as it's total speculation. No one knows how rookies will perform. Not the same as adding proven vets thru FA.

Take a team who was 8-8 three years ago.
Two years ago have a good draft and win 9 or 10.
Last year they win 11 and make the playoffs.

That's a team trending up.

Or a team that was 8-8 added a bunch of vets and went 9-7 had a good draft (speculation) didn't loose any key players or coaches. That's a team trending up. A good example would be the Dolphins.

You can’t downplay the Rams beating Seattle like it was nothing. They won 12 games last season. You don’t fluke your way to 12 wins in the NFL.

amd they lost to the MVP of the league last season.

And,, I’m sorry, but did you just say Stafford is unknown? Like he is Tom Brady when he replaced an injured Bledsoe, or Kurt Warner when he replaced an injured Trent Green?

he’s not unknown. He’s been one of the best QB’s for the past 10 years.

Sure you can, Seattle didn't even show up. Seattle was gifted a lot of games last season. More than half their wins were less than 7 pts. Hell a handful were by 3 or less.

Now before you tell how us dominant the Lambs were in that game to try and justify your arguement. What happened the following week to a team with no offensive weapons, tgat it has their MVP frachise QB wanting to relocate. Not to mention their Swiss cheese D.

Stafford is an unkown both in the Ram offense and the playoffs. He hasn't played in a playoff game since 2016.

Their stats are not that far off. Keep in mind I loved Stafford as my FFL QB. Still a fan as I mentioned so there is no vendetta. Stafford numbers on the left. Of course Staff has 2x the expirence I'll give you that.

Ok, if we are going to use your reasoning, then the Pats were gifted 5 SB wins because they won the first 5 by 7 points or less.

sounds pretty stupid, doesn’t it.

That makes perfect sense. Not!

The SB routinely has the best two teams from each conference. Teams play much lesser competition during the season. We're talking about trends here. Not one game. Try to stay focused. Stop being so butt hurt someone said something negative about your Rams and look at it objectively.

It's a trend. It's not the end of the world nor does it mean a team or your team is terrible.

If you don't think Stafford isn't an upgrade on Goff, only means you don't know what you are talking about. Rams got worse? Upgrading at the most position in football.

It is a tough call but it is hard to argue against the AFC North.

They totaled 38.5 wins, while the NFC West had 36 wins. You also have to factor in the Bengals losing their star QB.
The AFC North had the easiest schedule in football, last season.

This is rich coming from a Patriots fan that over the years played the Jets, Dolphins & Bills twice a year.

Where do you come up with this no cap space, our nucleus isn't getting seperated. We were 35 over the cap and didn't lose anyone of importance.

That is what happens when you win the most games....it appears your schedule was easier.
No because you played bad teams, Browns for instance played, Jets, Giants, Texans, Jags, Eagles, Bungles twice, Cowboys, WFT, so 9 games versus losing teams and one against 500 team. Not to mention a Steeler team that got exposed and was one of the worst teams in the playoffs.

If last 3 season records are the guideline then the Patriots are heading for a top 8 pick next year.
...but it isn't the guideline.

You do realize division strength is based on wins and losses? So it is a fact that divisions with more wins contributed to a weaker strength of schedule.

The NFC WEST played the worst division in football (NFC EAST) and the AFC EAST.

The AFC NORTH played the same NFC EAST and the AFC SOUTH.

So like opponents...same amount of wins by the NFC EAST
PHI...beat the 49ers.
Dallas...beat Bengals and 49ers.
NYG...beat Bengals and Seahawks.
WTF...beat Bengals, Steelers, and 49ers.

BTW...Redskins fan...
