Well 2020 was an "interesting" and very trying year for all of us, especially college football and husky football fans. Covid messed with so many things and we only ended up with 4 games and no bowl. Ugghhh.... We'll here is to blind optimism that 2021 will be a year of getting back to normal, or at least something a lot closer.
To all the existing Husky posters, welcome back and all the new ones that join here this year, welcome aboard.

That being said, I think 2021 could and SHOULD be an incredible year for the Husky football program, and that's not blind optimism. The roster is looking absolutely loaded across the team and given the NCAA's modified rules for scholarships in 2020 and 2021 related to Covid, the Huskies could end up with a roster closer to 90+ players this fall, rather than the hard count number of 85 that's the usual limit. USC and Oregon have very noticeable attrition to grad, transfers, and the NFL draft. It will be felt this fall. Washington loses very few.

If all goes as expected as more of the public gets the Covid vaccine and the testing protocols that were put in place for all PAC teams, it is looking good that spring practice camps will be happening which will benefit the Huskies big-time, especially with all the in-state talent we invite for unofficial visits during those weeks and also out of state recruits were building relationships with. Summer and August practice camps should be happening, which is also always an important time for recruiting, and hopefully we have a complete schedule of games and finish off with a NY6 / Rose bowl bid which I believe we are very much in the hunt for.

It was only 4 games, but any doubts that the Huskies were going to fall off a cliff with Petersen's retirement and whether the key new add of Donovan at OC + the changes to the offense were going to bust were put to rest. I saw a lot more positive, than negative in those 4 games. Hopefully, it's enough ammunition to build out an outstanding 2022 class and keep moving forward & upward with rankings + landing the right ballers for our program.

I'll be taking a look at the projected roster for 2021 in another post and let me tell you, this team is ABSOLUTELY LOADED.

So hello 2021 and what's shaping up to be a outstanding year for the Husky football program.

Best wishes to all the Huskies out there. GO DAWGS!!!!

Josiah Bronson has made his official announcement that he will be entering the NFL draft. He developed into a productive member of the DL and had a solid season. Huskies return a lot of talent at the DL in 2021 so while it's a hit to the depth of the team, his departure isn't a gut punch to our roster.

Expect Moore to get serious playing time this fall
Otton and him could end wrecking defenses this fall.

Idk how I came across looking into this, but I was looking at Jake Haener's stats with Fresno State and although it's hard to compare the numbers of a guy playing in Haener's conference to Jacob Eason playing in the PAC-12, but I found this somewhat telling:

Jacob Eason 2019: 13 games, 64.2% completion percentage, 3132 passing yards, 7.7 YPA, 23 TDs 8 interceptions
Jake Haener 2020: 6 games, 64.7% completion percentage, 2021 passing yards, 8.7 YPA, 14 TDs 5 interceptions

If Haener had played a full season he would have better numbers in just about every category. I know it's at Fresno State, but it makes you wonder if the program would've been better starting Haener in 2019. The gap between them wasn't substantial in the competition by all accounts which makes you think Haener wouldn't have been much better or worse than Eason in 2019, but had he won the job we'd likely be looking at going into 2021 with Haener as the starter with 3 years of experience (if you want to count 2020).

Hindsight is always 20/20 but an interesting thing to wonder about.

Not too worried at the RB position. Seems like they get good players to fit their scheme. My concern is the play at QB.
I thought the RB call was a bit of a head scratcher as one. I guess it was because it resembled a "by committee" approach in the 4 games. I get that.

One of my bigger gripes about Petersen and his offenses, is that he exclusively recruited tiny APBs and smaller RBs. Call me old fashioned, but I still believe that if you want to roll with the big boys, you got to have workhorse sized RBs and at least one FB out there to pound the rock as well. Gaskin was a great talent and was a ninja at finding the holes and hitting them, but I still always want to see a 1-2 punch of a RB of his size and a workhorse so you can open the playbook more.

It's why I desperately wanted to see more of Cam Davis out there last season. He got some touches, but I wanted more calls to him. I hope that happens this fall.

Morris did a fine job last season in limited games. Will be interesting to see who ends up the starter this fall. Huard is a phenom, but even they can always benefit from not being thrown to the wolves as true freshman.

Whoever ends up the QB, he's being provided one of the deepest talent pools of WRs and TEs the Huskies have sported in a long time and a very capable experienced Oline. What a gift and I hope it gets put to use well.

I see a team that can get 9 to 10 wins this season. But if we blow it with some stupid loses and struggle, it's going to set us back in recruiting bigtime. We really need to come out swinging this year.

I guess those 4 games was more a let's see who we have and get ready for the '21 season. I still wished we played Oregon and the CCG but oh well. You're right it would be nice to have that bruiser RB but I can't complain too much about the success we've had at RB. I'd take a power FB for those very short yardage needing a first down. I keep Huard on the bench this year and then let him loose in '22. We have a very good schedule and beating Michigan, getting to the CCG and actually win a top tier Bowl game would start to get recruiting back on track.

Dear lord....our new DB is a freaking assassin.
Defense is going to complete fire this year. The offense clicks and this team will be making a serious run for the PAC crown.

Any thoughts on why he transfered?
His numbers are very solid.

In 35 career games, he amounted 115 career tackles with nine coming of those coming for loss. He often graded out well and was liked and defended by his teammates throughout his career.

But I did find this note interesting from ESPN: His non-stop jawing with opponents and periodic bouts of excessive physicality away from the ball made him a magnet for personal fouls.

He was a legit 5star level recruit coming out of HS. Its a coup to get him, but sounds like we're in a medium risk, high reward situation cause he's got a unsportsmanlike in him at times.

I think it comes down to him needing a change of scenery and better coaching at his position to ultimately improve his development for NFL and draft stock. He can play safety and nickel. He's coming to DBU. It's a great fit for his skills and talent.

He should end up very involved in nickel and dime packages this fall. Make no mistake, alot of defensive coaches in the PAC groaned when the announcement was made. He's a guy you got to game plan for.

I was wondering why he decided to transfer myself. Not like he was at risk of losing playing time.

If I had to speculate, he probably determined UW is the best place to build his draft profile. With all due respect to the PAC-12 (not that there is much to be had), in the PAC-12 he will be going up against offenses that don't pile up statistics and has a chance to be part of a great defense with a great track records for DBs.

Given the fact that he's undersized by NFL standards, being a part of UW's defense could really boost his draft profile. Given the fact that he already has his degree, I'd be surprised if he stays with us after the 2021 season. Great addition for us nonetheless.

Even with covid messing up his senior season, he still proceeds to break the passing yards record to become the #1 HS QB of all time in the state of Washington. His numbers are just jaw dropping.

My only hope is the Huskies develop him correctly and surround him with a team at a talent level that can take advantage of what he provides to win Rose bowls and get to the CFP.
