You really want to use those guys as examples? More like examples of buyer beware.
Exactly. But the point is, it happens....to immediately rule out any possibility what so ever, is silly. There are alot of silly folks in the nfl, poor gm’s, poor coaches, etc...and weve seen many times poor contracts, poor trades etc... i cant fathom why you dont try. If you try, and get nothing, yourre in the exact same spot. Teams routinely shop guys and then end up cutting them. Sometimes teams toss a late round pick your way.

You are barking up the wrong tree on this one. Houston has a completely dysfunctional organization but everyone knew they weren't going to get anything for Watt under that deal.

And they likely did make a couple of phone calls to other GM's to see if there was any interest and got laughed at.

No one was going to give up anything for the right to pay Watt $17.5M when they know he is probably not even worth half that on the open market.

Do you know for sure that they didn't call around? There are 16 teams with enough cap space currently, and he wants a contender, which cuts the list to 6 (and 2 of those barely have enough space, AZ and SF). The other 4? Cleveland, Baltimore, Tampa and Indy. I don't know enough about the free agent needs of those teams to speak on them specifically.

Reports are they just released him. Thats what the whole discussion has been based on.

I guess. I mean i dont know how everyone else operates their lives and business situations, potential gains, and losses....but in ANY situation, id at least want to try.

Football wise, J.J. is probably a bit of a risk due to his injury history amd he's also lost a step because of those injuries so maybe offers will be not as great as a younger FA would get.
But as a leader and character guy in your locker room, he is one of the best you will see. His desire to get out of the shit show in Houston is fully warranted, imo and this release was easily forseen. The younger McNair appears to be even worse than Marc Davis as inherited owners who are clueless.

I would think he's going to want to go to a team with another star on the DL so he stops seeing so many doubles.

There was some crazy stat last year that he saw double teams on a crazy amount of snaps. Is he prime JJ...of course not, but if he can go to a team that can limit his snaps some and with great players around him I think he can still play at a very high level. I mean for example if he went to the Browns with Garrett, Ricardson, Billings...it’s going to be next to impossible to double team him.

Oh yeah, he can still play at a high rate when healthy and if he's on a team with some help around him, he can be a huge help. My post was only in reference to what he will get paid.

Bills gotta create some cap space. Still think the Browns and Packers are just as good if not better options.

The Packers are in a worse cap situation than the Bills are.
Well yeah both don’t have the money right now. Browns have $20M with the current cap projection...ideally it makes sense
