I'm sure Seattle's management isn't happy with Wilson's comments but they what can they do other than say they're unhappy? The can't fine him, benching him doesn't make sense, and giving him less talent to work with or less input into the new system would be counter-productive.

I took his comments as a little calculated jab on his part and I think he took that jab knowing that it at least would cause more teams to call the Seahawks and cause the Seahawks to be more willing to listen. I mean if the Jets called and offered 3 1st rounders for him you're probably not hanging up the phone right away.

Ultimately I still think nothing happens this offseason but I thought 2022 would be his last year as a Hawk and now there might be a decent chance 2021 could be his last season if he continues to poke the bear.

Actually I'm not ruling out something happening in the last year of his contract. He'll be a gray beard and his salary expectations may result in listening to offers. Right now the Seahawks been adamant about not being interested in hearing offers. I really think RW has a good relationship with Pete and John and isn't thinking of doing anything drastic.

I dont think Wilson is doing anything unreasonable. If anything this proves he's not as robotic as people think.

Regardless this could very well lead to a break up in the near future. The reality is, its just hard to coexist with one team your whole career anymore. Brady and Manning moved on, it appears Rodgers could be headed in that direction too. Watson has one foot out the door. This is just the NFL now.

"A source" told him that "management " wasn't happy.

What does that mean exactly? Does it mean their ready to trade him? I don't think so. I think it means they wish he hadn't of stir things up. If one can even take the report seriously. A "source" that apparently isn't management made a comment to Dan Patrick......supposedly. Geez could they get any more vague?

Correct.

$39 million in dead cap makes it virtually impossible to trade Russ even if both sides wanted out, and there is no indication that either side actually does.

Revisit this in 2 years. The last year of the contract is probably the only time this would be a feasible possibility.

No idea ...BUT, rumors are flying... You wonder if something could happen before the draft ...

That does make a trade unlikely... But Pete and John have always been very unpredictable ...

I agree, as this contract becomes close to running out, then it becomes possible, depending how things go. For now the media is grasping at straws trying to manufacture some drama.

$39 million would eat all of the cap space and put us several million in the hole.

It is an untenable situation. We would have to make other big trades/cuts which would only add to the problem.

Anything is theoretically possible but the odds of trading RW this offseason are miniscule enough that it doesn't warrant the attention this is getting.

I suppose it is possible next offseason, but still a $26 million hit, which makes it improbable. Even the last year with a $13 million hit wouldn't be easy, but at least that scenerio falls into the realm of reality.

That does make it difficult, wonder if there are any ways around that ? I would hate to lose Russ honestly, but if it happens it needs to happen while he’s a hot commodity and we can get a lot for him...

Maybe in a couple of years if they're at a stalemate in contract talks.

I’m not sure why I see Seahawks fan so gung-ho about trading away the best QB in their history.

If Wilson was traded in March 2021 $26M of dead money would accelerate into the Seahawks 2021 cap calculations and Wilson's $19M salary would move to his new team. The Seahawks would have $7M less in 2021 cap space. If they brought in a replacement earning $30M in 2021 they could restructure the incoming contract to a $5M salary and $25M signing bonus. That would mean only $5M salary + $5M bonus of the new contract would count in 2021. Only $10M would count and along with the additional $7M cap hit created by the Wilson trade the Seahawks, (in a $17M hole), would be limited with that else they could do in 2021. It is possible, but it's really, really unlikely...unless someone makes the Seahawks an offer they can't refuse. It would have to be something like a Wilson for Watson trade.

If you believe he won't be on the team by 2023 it's not an unreasonable stance to have. Even moreso if you think Carroll is still going to be the head coach still.

You wouldn't want to see him traded for the sake of being traded but if for example the Jets offered 2, 23, and a 2021 first rounder you'd have to seriously consider it. Especially that #2 pick which could easily be flipped for more valuable picks and if say the Panthers trade for it you could probably flip #8 and get even more picks.

So you're talking about a lot of quality draft assets that could be used to build a strong cheap roster which means you have the cap space to add free agents to strength the roster even further.

I mean if it was me I would've canned Carroll a couple of years ago and built more around Wilson and keep him as long as possible but if Carroll is going to continue to be the head coach the best path forward would be to explore a trade of Wilson and build that great defense, great running gaming, and don't screw it up QB system he wants.

I’d get rid of Carroll before trading Russ. Elite franchise QBs who can carry a franchise are really hard to come by. I’m under the mindset that all this media news is overblown, but if it’s not you do what ever it takes to make him happy.

Probably because the FO has so few draft picks and imagine a God father type offer would replenish those missing picks and more. I'd personally like to see Russ finish out his career here.
