Let's discuss additions and deletions as they happen. I'm starting with the actual Salary Cap Roster as it officially stands today.

One of the first things I noticed are that Hightower and Cannon will account for $12.5M and $9.5M respectively. I can't see Cannon coming back and if he retires, the dead money goes away. That's a $9.5M boost. Hopefully HT comes back and lends his knowledge and experience to the youngsters. He might be willing to re-write his contract with an extension.

My gut is telling me that Gilmore will be traded. I don't think Bill feels that he will recover to the DPOY that he was in 2019. I honestly believe in my heart that BB will trade him for a player and a 3rd round pick or a 2nd and 5th.

Remove Cannon and Golmore and that add $26M to the cap and Bill will have $82M + $26M = $108M to spend on the draft and free agents.

I agree with all of this.
$108 could bring in a plethora of top notch FA's and put the Pats right back on top.
Throw in a few more decent drafts and we can rejoice for a few more years.
I'm starting to like 2021 better and better.
Come on Combine!!

I'm not jumping on the we'll be at the top ideal. A very large part of me wonders if BB is adapting to the direction the NFL seems to be headed.

I'm hopefully optimistic.
I would not bet my house on it.
But, I would not bet against BB either.

Yeah I am not betting against him either but that Defense First Dink and Dunk thing people have adapted too. Seems to me they tried that with Cam and only certain very smart QB can pull that off and it requires the right type WR. We'll see

The Cam thing is simple His strength is reacting and not anticipating. A guy like TB reacts slower than most other world class athletes. He excelled at anticipating to the point of nearly having a "Spider" sense. A Dink and Dunk master can't be reacting because it's changing too fast upfront.

If we draft a rookie, what about bringing Jacoby Brissett back to mentor him? I would rather have him than Cam.

I almost clicked winner. It's a winner as a fall back plan and Brissett would also be high floor, medium ceiling on the field. What stopped me is the success would really depend on the rookie drafted.... But the approach is solid.

ANYBODY is a better bet than Cam.
There are others I would rather have instead, but I think he would do better than Hoyer or Cam.

Local sources here have Urban Meyer and the Jags targeting D. Watson if that happens they may be willing to deal that #1 pick could mix up the draft and take the need for an early QB off the board. FYI this is from a guy a work with who is a season ticket holder so there may be no value in that info.

Watch a great discussion of Brissett going back to the Patriots last night. No one is 100% sold in him. He was traded because the feeling was tgat JG would be in Foxboro. Brissett started at Indy and didn't impress them enough to let him keep the job and they signed Rivers. One of commentators made an excellent point, "Why not do whatever has to be done to make the move to get the QB that the Patriots feel will be their starter for the next 10 years and be done with it." Great point. If they think that Lawrence or Wilson or Fields is the guy that can takeover, get him and start him. Screw bringing in a bridge QB and not letting the rookie show what he's made of. Josh Allen was allowed to flounder for two years without the threat of being pulled and now he's become a top 5 QB. Patience and confidence will pay off, but these men dion't appear to have enough in themselves, let alone a rookie QB. Such is life in New England.

Only issue I have with that is how do we know with absolute certainty any of the guys you listed will actually be THE guy for the next 10 years? Is it worth gambling away draft capital? I honestly don't know the answer and am very interested in seeing what BB does this offseason.

I think what they were referring to is that the patriots never have had to pick a QB and start him immediately during the TB12 era. Nowadays, other
teams have thrown today's young QBs into the fire and they seem to succeed. They refer to Allen, Watson and Jackson while QBs that have ben forced to wait on the sidelines, haven't fared well like Rosen, Locke, Stidham. I can see their point. Don't have to agree that every kid is ready, but the argument is that you don't know and if they don't play, maybe it does something to their swagger.

Except that if the Jags trade #1 overall for Watson, Texans will then be picking a Clemson or Ohio QB with the #1 overall pick.

Personally, that's me, a never been not gonna be a HC ever, I say trade it all for Lawrence or Fields and sign a vet also. We have the cap space.
Get the FNG some game experience but don't just throw him to the wolves and over the next couple of years build an offense around him for the long haul.

I can live with that. As long as BB also does some homework and picks up a couple of WRs and not midgets.
