I think this is like asking "which jelly donut was more to blame for the death of John Candy?"

Obviously Fields being banged up, and Sermon getting knocked out from the first possession made it an easier blowout for Bama, but the Buckeyes weren't winning this game, in my opinion, even if their entire team was at 100%. A healthier team would have likely made it a more competitive game, but I still think Ohio State loses by double digits regardless. I am biased though.
A healthy OSU team would have had to be perfect to win. If we wouldn't have missed so many tackles, losing with Sermon out would have been harder to take. But if you can't tackle them, there's no way OSU could have pulled it off.

Bama's offense was so dynamic this year they would have beaten any team in the country by at least 14/17 points. They were just that good.

That was my thought, although Florida gave them a great game in the SEC championship. Regardless, I think they probably would have beaten Florida by double digits if they had played again in the playoffs.

Other teams could say that about Bama this year though. The fact of the matter is, no one had any real success tackling Bama this year, and they played several top 25 teams (four top 10 teams).

Conference match up's are always a little different than OOC competition I think. In conference match up's team are more fimilar with one another.

Notre Dame is top ten?

You think a playoff team will drop out of the top 10? Who will jump them?

Would you like to make an avatar bet that they are ranked in the top ten in the final rankings? Just to warn you, I looked at the teams behind them and several lost their bowl games too. I think they probably land no further than #8. It seems like a sure thing, but if you think it isn't, I'd be willing to bet you on it. Just let me know.

I'm not that confident...they should be behind Cincinatti.

I will have to say that Ohio St. covered punts & kickoffs better than any team Alabama has faced this year. I think OSU would have benefitted by playing more games.

What is the word on Sermon. Broken collar bone?

OSU does not release injury information, so unless he spills the beans, you won't know until the combine.

Probably a smart decision... TV was saying possible Collar Bone injury the way he was holding it

2 starting defensive tackles being out or Trey Sermon being out?

I guess I'd have to say Sermon, but truth is not having a healthy Fields really hurt. You could tell with his throws and pocket precense that he isn't 100%, and not really even close. I think that, plus his mind trying to stop him from getting hit, led to him missing a lot of throws he normally would.

Plus, putting a LB on Smith didn't pan out too well for OSU.

Sermon. In order to keep up with Bama Ohio State would have needed a Zeke Elliott type performance to control the ball and keep that crazy offense off the field. Master Teague is not a bad back, but he isn't capable of that, Trey Sermon is.

The defensive line out hurt for sure but they werent going to be a big enough difference. You aren't stopping that offense, you have to limit their possessions and outscore them
Agreed. Sermon improved his game, Teague stayed about the same.

Ole Miss came fairly close as well... had nearly 650 total yards and it was a tight game.

Florida and Alabama rarely play as cross divisional foes. Like once every 7 years on a rotation (unless both make the CG). There was no familiarity.

Personally, I think a rematch would have been even closer than the 6 points. When Florida played Alabama, the gumps made no critical mistakes like they did vs OSU. And I can't see Grantham being worse the second try. But who knows... maybe these 20+ pussy players would all opt out still to get their payday, even in the playoffs, and get blown out.
