Both points well taken. JFTR, I'm still 100% for signing free agents vs trading. But the Snell story intrigued me and naturally I like to bring up such matters for discussion, especially when there really isn't a lot to discuss during this lull in the offseason.
no need to feel defensive. not arguing or anything like it. just giving it my thoughts as well.

Not feeling defensive at all, to the contrary, I always enjoy a counterpoint to any point I might be making. If all we ever did was agree with each other over ever story, what fun would that be?

Some interesting stats for what its worth. The most interesting to me - were the Sox defensive stats.
i find it interesting that we could have guessed these things to be true for the most part. nice to see them corroborated.

You can't be coming off as stats guy, start an article with a backhand to LaRussa about his dui charge and only mention him one more time in another backhand about "one of the few guys who could make hearts grow fonder of Renteria."

If you're going to throw that down, mediot "Jim Margalus," throw down some stats like you claim your article is about to back it up...Oh wait...If you dared compare LaRussa and Renteria.....You'd look like an absolute moron.

The tidbits are interesting (particularly the no triples all season at Comiskey) but the shark-jump start made me want to just ignore the rest, and I regret not doing so.

Do you guys buy into this rumor - there's certainly nothing to back it up. I'd be more than satisfied if these happened, but right now there's not even any smoke, let alone a fire.

Not rumors, but guesses.
Exactly. I wish there was something there behind them, but it looks like they're just throwing shit against the wall and seeing if some of it sticks.

Here's a really nice summation of the Sox roster and where it stands relative to guaranteed contracts, FAs, arbitration, etc, plus some analysis (aka guesswork) as to how they may proceed further in this offseason.

Here's an interesting read where some of the CBS Sports columnists predict (AKA guess) where the top 10 FAs will land:

Only three times do the Sox appear - once for Springer and twice for Brantley. And nothing for our top need, SP. Go figure.
sounds like they know reinsdork.

They don't know sh*t...90% of them had us with Machado...Some of the local ones and the more reputable ones will nail it if it is within a few days of signing...but at this point? All their predictions are meh...

Report that Miguel Cairo was hired as the White Sox Bench Coach. Knows baseball - knows La Russa and speaks Spanish like a Venezuelan.

I hear Jerry wanted Joel Cairo from "The Maltese Falcon," but Peter Lorre is dead - so Hahn said Miguel is probably a nephew or something.

Keep an eye on Gavin Sheets 1b White Sox draft pick. He will likely be protected on the 40 man roster for the rule 5 draft. The reason to keep an eye on him is that he is a left handed power hitter (6'5" 245) who KOs less than 20% of the time. The Sox need Left handed power. He will likely be at AAA Charlotte to begin next season.

The Sox obviously have enough power to eat up Lefties, but faded last year because Moncada - lost most of his power stroke after Covid and Mazara underperformed considerably and therefore the Sox faded against a steady diet of RH pitching. I wonder if Gavin will get some reps in RF at Charlotte.

The Sox now have a full 40 man roster. They are supposedly out to sign a couple of pitchers and a RF. They names that don't really fit on the 40 man based on performance are: Rodon, Lopez, Ruiz and Mazara - so they have room for anybody they want to sign. Congratulations to Burger for his comeback who is also now on the 40 man roster.

Not a big story, but the Sox were pretty smart to pickup Emilio Vargas on waivers from Arizona. 24 year old RH pitcher - with a very good WHIP - a rubber arm and ready to graduate from AA. You know somebody on the Sox wanted him because he is also on the 40 man roster.

Good analysis. I might take a slight disagreement with respect to Lopez. Not so much because I still believe he has the makings of a good starter. I think that ship has sailed. It's more that I feel he might still be able to prove himself as a long reliever/spot starter (we really don't have one of these on the roster at the present), and of course he's also a candidate for being trade bait.

Lopez will be the last of the four mentioned to get thrown out of the life boat. I haven't given up on him completely - I suspect he may be a throw in for a potential trade - where the receiving team says they think a change of scenery may be all he needs.

A couple of pitchers here possibly on the trading block:

Now that Morton has taken a one year deal with the Braves, the quality of pitching talent not named Bauer continues to shrink in the free agent market. Snell's name has been mentioned several times in trade rumors of late, so there may be some fire to this smoke. They even devoted a small segment today on the MLB channel to this possibility. Gray's name is new, at least to anything I've read until this article. I'd much prefer Snell, altho he'd cost more in trade capital than Gray. Also mentioned here is Lynn. I'd like to see if Hahn can work something out to land this big feller. He'd only be a rental, but if he can be obtained at a reasonable cost, he'd be worth it.
