That one hander just before falling out of bounds was a thing of beauty. If it wasn't deemed as one of the top catches of the week, it should have been.

Fuggedaboutit...That diving beauty by Swift at the end of the game was way more epic.

That's why my initial post after the game was of the WTF variety. It was criminal to have allowed Swift to be so open like that by the endzone. Thankfully he gagged the pass from Stafford.

I just had this random vision of the ref calling it a catch anyway and awarding the touchdown...then they interview ref at the end of the game and he pulls off his face and is really Calvin Johnson.

Personally, I'd take the 0-1 for that reality if offered.

Some thoughts:

I give Nagy credit for not pulling Trubisky after the first 3Qs. And honestly i don't think anyone would of criticized Nagy had he done it

I give Trubisky credit but like others have said this is the Lions, what people are also forgetting though is that Lions secondary was depleted with injuries. Trubisky probably won't face a secondary that weak for the rest of the year

Nagy cannot start a drive off with a run, sling pass and leave it for Trubisky to handle 3rd and 7. Won't work. Trubisky is best when throwing early in downs or mixing in playaction

They gave up quite a bit more than 6. Didn’t play well today. The run defense misses Goldman a lot. Trevathan had a really bad game. No rush. Secondary was a bright spot .

They looked out of shape, for sure. Came through big at the end, though.

For now, I'm going to chalk it up to "it's Week 1 in a season with barely any camp and no pre-season". But we'll see how it goes next week. They have to be better.

Got lucky at the end. Trevathan missed big and let the RB by him on the play where he dropped a touchdown.

True. Yeah, I meant more so with the INT. Should have worded it better.

I thought the secondary played well. As did Mack and as usual he was held a ton.

Trevathan just looked bad and Smith wasn’t much better...that’s probably a fixable problem moving forward because those guys are too good.

Need a pass rusher opposite Mack though. If Quinn can’t go someone should be on the phone with Clay Matthews or something.

This is my take too. Trevathan looked like he was playing in mud. Smith had a couple of TFL and fared a little better in coverage. Trevathan got fucking worked tho.

Another concern to me, is the absolute lack of production from the TE group. Ya, Graham had a TD, but only 3 catches, and I'm pretty sure that's it from the group. Only targeted Cole once, and that was nowhere near catch-able. I did see a couple nice blocks from him tho.

The lack of pass rush is concerning too. Kahlil Mack is held on every single snap, I swear. It's ridiculous.

Detroit moved the ball way too easily and converted way too many long 3rd downs against this D. That last drive that should've won Detroit the game was a prime example.

Robert Quinn was/is supposed to be the difference-maker up front this year, and I'm not even certain he's on the team yet. lel.

Oh, and fuck Eddie Goldman.

I agree with every point BD made. But I'll add one:

Miller needs to be an integral part of the passing O from the outset, not just late in the game.

Anthony miller is a stud........period........you have two great wr's................

Whats the thoughts? Box score and twitter reading........trubs looked awful, then dominated the 4tth.........

Was it him? was it the lions being, well the lions?

Is it just pure mixed emotion?

Do you think he turned the corner?

I don't think there's ever been a Bears game where I just didn't have much of a reaction or a thought on it. Outside of being happy, of course, that they pulled it out of their ass.

The game made absolutely no sense. I think the combination of that and not having much of a camp just lends itself to "let's just see what happens next".

A few drives is certainly not enough to say that Mitch has turned some type of a corner. It does, however, erase how putrid he looked in the first 3 quarters and wipes his slate clean again.

I mean, I'm no Mitch apologist. That being said, those 4th quarter throws were dimes and massively clutch. I can't just sit here and dismiss that. I don't see any reason to believe he can do it consistently, though. Him suddenly turning into a good long-term QB would still be unprecedented.

I guess we'll see. I am rooting for him, obviously.

definitely solid points. Alot of younger qbs are excelling, but just as many struggling right now

Well said, tho I think his play in the first 3 quarters is a touch blown out of proportion. He had some nice throws between the 30's, and a couple floaters mistimed and dropped, but mostly just bogged down in the redzone. 14 pts at half, and I doubt folks are bitching too much about his early play. Both teams played close to the vest early and both looked a little rusty.

So much of winning football is energy and emotion. I know I sound like a broken record, but I really think that series at the end of the half was a killer. Felt like it took til the 4th to shake it. 14 points in 5 minutes, without touching the ball on offense. It definitely put them behind the 8-ball, in a games that was sixes up to that point. That will never help the statline or general look/feel of the game. That shit has to get better, and presumably Nagy calls it different against a better team, but who knows. And as stated, I'm ok with the general principle of being aggressive there, but it's imperative to not let that cloud judgement and reason, as a coach.
