A little premature after one week 1 but I feel this is still a valid question.

Both Baker and Darnold struggling early in their career and this year was a critical year for both. Both still have another year under contract in 2021 but with Trevor Lawrence coming out...he might be the most hyped QB prospect in the last 30 years. DO they say fuck it and draft another QB high with Darnold and Baker given only 3 years to prove they can be a proven starting QB?

I think both would have to underperform and the team too but as a Browns fan...if you see an upgrade opportunity, go for it. Lawrence could be a star.

Yes both should consider it.

If either have a chance to grab Lawrence, they have to do it.

The simple fact is that the bar has been raised at the QB position the last couple of years....and not just by a little bit. Neither Mayfield or Baker profile as anything more than average starting QB at best in the league.

Is that dumbbell jackass Mayfield working with a QB coach? That idiot said he didn't need to after last season even though he threw the 2nd most int's and was either last or second to last in rating.

I think the Jets for sure are in the running. I don't think Darnold is the answer and that team is just bad.
I think the Browns have enough talent on the roster that they will be a .500 team or better. They played like shit yesterday but arguably vs. the most loaded team overall in the conference. I'm not sold on Mayfield and maybe his rookie season was a fluke. I don't know but I think he can still be the guy and they won't be Hue Jackson bad enough for that top pick.

So long as your qbs are still on their rookie contracts, I would think you would want to use those high draft picks to get longterm anchors for your o-line. That way, once you do decide to pull the trigger on a qb, they will have a fighting chance at success.

Voted yes to Browns. Pretty Good analysis of Mayfield's game yesterday: Cleveland Browns Film Room: Concern Surrounding Baker Mayfield

The best quarterbacks in the league have the ability to work both pre-snap and post-snap to find the defenses weakness and exploitable area. It's a chess game, and one the best in the league are able to decipher on the fly. The old guard of Tom Brady and Drew Brees are still doing it and Patrick Mahomes is there at a young age as well. Mayfield will never be the running type so he has to find that advantage in processing and anticipation and he is just not there. Not even close.

Sunday was yet another extension of the disappointing second year.

The interception we saw on the first drive was a true microcosm of the issues Mayfield is running into over his last 17 games. The Ravens defense was a step ahead in the mental chess game.

It's 3rd and 10 and the Ravens know Mayfield doesn't handle pressure fronts well. When linebackers and safeties creep up close to the line of scrimmage and hide where the pressure is coming from, Mayfield is known to make mistakes.
I don't think he's got what it takes.

Yep and that is a great point. It's not that they are awful QB's but there is a standard in this league to compete at a high level. You need a great QB and it doesn't hurt if that QB is pretty athletic. I think Lawrence and Fields are QB's that could succeed at a high level in the NFL. It isn't over for Baker but watching just one game...I see the same things we saw last year which isn't a good sign.

I don't think he's got what it takes.

I saw glimpses of what he could be in the 1st year...that's why I was so convinced but having different coaches, declining to get a QB coach in the offseason has been not believing in him. He isn't quick enough on those 1st reads and when the pocket breaks down he gets figgity. Not giving up yet though...

@Sharkonabicycle the douche is so happy.

Both QB's started as rookies. Maybe if they carried a clipboard for a few seasons they would have fared better.

Not many rookie QBs are successful starting in their first season.

Maybe...but at the time both teams didn't have an option or really a veteran. Browns had Taylor and he got hurt. Not even sure who the Jets QB was..

Dammit now you're gonna make me defend Mayfield. Stop that! He should have carried a clipboard as a rookie? Um no. He set the rookie record for TD passes. He looked good in Todd Haley's offense two years ago. Freddie Kitchens as player caller last year was a disaster for him though.

As far as this year not going to give up on him just yet. It's not like the Ravens are a bad team. He looked awful against a damn good D. And I gotta feeling the Ravens D will do that to other QB's this year as well.

Also the year before he arrived the Browns went 0-16. His rookie year his record was 6-7.

I agree that would make sense but we have seen throughout the league lately that front offices don't think like that. It seems GMs and owners, especially on bad teams, are all about the big splash. Maybe it's just my perception that is off though.

Had to look the info up. But Josh McCown was the starter.

Brown's only. Jets roster stinks. Not all on the QB there.

I'm happy because I said Mayfield wouldn't pan out and the Browns were overrated? Not really... First off, Mayfield could still develop (although it's low), second, there's times I'm PLENTY wrong and happy to admit it so I'm always very humble about being right.

I wasn't high on Russell Wilson and didn't really like the pick we spent on him and "We have Matt Flynn so wtf?". WOOOOPS! :L

I agree on the Jets roster and I will add coaching. Bad situation for Darnold for sure but that's why they will have a shot at a high pick and maybe 1st overall. I'm not so sure Darnold is the guy either. If the pick is there, I think they pull the trigger.
