We need a thread for this topic. To start with: Should the NFL cancel the season? Why or why not?

Well I think you know how I feel, yes the NFL should cancel the season. They need to sit down Owners, NFLPA, Designated team reps and hammer this out. The risk is not worth the reward in this matter.

Yes. The post you made last night inspired me to create this thread. This topic is worthy of being separated from the others and discussed on it's own.

I like the idea of having games to watch with some competitive value, but not at a cost. Not at a cost of risking others getting this thing and certainly not at a cost of sending the correct message to the world. Are we going to fight this thing and win, or are we going to be selfish and just want what we want despite the risk (especially to others).

I'm all for safe sports and sound prophylactic environments. The "bubble approach" has promise, but for the NFL, they would need multiple campuses and ensure no outside contact when shuttling between campuses. There are too many games and too many practices to accomplish this at one campus.

Outside a complete prophylactic environment, it should be delayed until a time that athletes are safe and the league is able to set a responsible example.

I want to see football but honestly this year the games will be trash. They don't get to have padding practices until like the 16th day of camp? No way the first games will be good. They won't be on game shape. Players will get hurt left and right.

The Marlins had an additional 4 players test positive. MLS players in the bubble are getting it. So tell me how guys knocking the snot out of each other won't catch Covid-19

Obviously I want sports because I miss them but a ton of Pats players already opting out, it won't be fun to watch

So do I. I also want to have sex with a super model, but not at a cost.

I think the chance of getting herpes is worth the risk.

As far as games go, I love football so damn much. But, it’s just not worth it right now. Get this under control. Don’t rush it. Do it the correct way. Shit, I caught the RONA from going to the damn store(I think). Can’t imagine how fast and how easy this could spread with all the contact and bodily fluid swapping going on.

Also, fuck Brady and Gronk. Don’t want them ever playing another snap.

So that brings up an interesting thought... Given he's playing: would you rather he played great and solidified his perception as the greatest QB ever; or would you rather he sucked so bad that the perception changed to the QB who could precisely execute what the great BB directed?

Maybe it’s just me. But when a player leaves the Patriots, I don’t care about that player anymore. I look at it like this. I was married to my first wife for 13 years. After we divorced I certainly didn’t want her to start dating guys better looking or more endowed than me(which unfortunately would be easy to do). If Coach B were to retire a Patriots coach I would forever love him. He goes to coach the Chargers..... I hope he doesn’t win a single game. I’m weird though.....

The NBA seems to have the short solution by keeping their players in a bubble environment.

MLB has already messed themselves with a wet fart. The Marlins have 13 players and staff infected and more are likely to follow.

NHL is attempting to follow the NBA model.

In my opinion, the NFL will NOT be exempt from a multitude of players either becoming sick or testing positive for Covid. Unless the two potential vaccines that were tested on 60,000 Americans yesterday are shown to actually be working vaccines, I think that the NFL should suspend play until a vaccine is working and fully approved.

Then there will be another left/right conundrum. Can the NFL force a player to take a vaccine or not allow him to play? There are many people who refuese to take vaccines because they feel that most deseases have been controlled and "they" don't need to be vaccined.

Patriots opting out is totally logical................

Marcus Cannon - Recovered from Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and his immune system because of Chemo and Radiation has been severley compromised.

Patrick Chung's wife is expecting a new baby and she's had some problems. He doesn't want her or the baby exposed.

Dante Hightower - Wife just had a new baby girl and she was born with diabetes. No way he even considers bring home anything.

One thing few people talk about is that the global disruption caused by COVID-19 has happened outside of the usual “flu” season, which is coming up soon.

Football is mostly played in the time of year where these awful influenza viruses thrive. Also, what about the virus mutation and what comes next?

It seems logical to consider that COVID-19 could be the tip of the iceberg. Countries that had the bug under control are now seeing new outbursts. Because this new strain of SARS is unlike anything we have seen before.

The reality is that nobody really knows what we are dealing with and an effective vaccine is faraway on the horizon, because of the way viruses mutate. We are not talking about a vaccine for polio or the measles. The challenge is developing protection against a bug that is changing by the hour. By the time a vaccine is out for public use, the virus will have mutated.

Doomsday scenario? Maybe. The safe bet is to wait until next year to see how things pan out, after the flu season.

Yes, if the NFL is cancelled this year, it will be missed. But there are many more important things to worry about right now, IMHO.

Be safe all!

My gut says the key to fighting this is understanding it and that takes time. If strains are changing rapidly then the vaccine route won't be effective.

We've all asked why doesn't the flu vaccine prevent the flu (answer, because it targets the most common circulating strains and not all strains). It's funny we've accepted the flu comes every year and in certain scenarios can be deadly. Why hasn't the resources been spent to wipe it off the planet? Was it just acceptance?

COVID 19 has had so much mis-information spread that I don't know what to believe. I'm certainly not implying I think it's a hoax. I know it's extremely serious but I just don't have a clue how serious. Is it a faster adapting version of the flu? Are the weakest being killed off this year and next year it will behave more like the flu? I have many other quasi-questions but I'll spare everyone since I really don't have a clue and they're more puked up speculative thoughts than anything else.

I wish we were just battling the virus. Instead we're fighting propaganda from all sides and missing the true information which is somewhere mixed in.
