I've been hearing for a week what an incredible recruiting class of 2021 that UT is putting together and claims that in 3 years they are going to compete for the national championship. I was curious so I looked and what I found was:

21 total recruits
0 - 5 Stars
8 - 4 Stars
13 - 3 stars

So this early they only have 4 spots to fill (assuming kids don't de-commit which we all know some will) and they have zero 5 stars?

If these numbers hold they will probably be ranked at the end about 4th or 5th in the SEC and might be lucky enough to break the top 10 overall.

I'm not that impressed.

247 has the DE as a 5 star I think.. along with the Miami LB (who himself is the biggest red flag of all red flags..makes Zach Evans look like an altar boy)

But the class is good, I can see why they are pumped.. reminds me of the class they had that included Dobbs.

247 has them with two five star kids. But given they only have two top 100 recruits (the two five stars) it seems underwhelming. Not sure why they have them ranked as the #2 class but it's early. I'd personally take Clemson's class a million times over Tenn's. It's 1/2 the size right now, but they have 6 top 100 recruits.

The kid they took from Cedar Hill (Qb in TX) seems to be legit..had a great junior season.

Dobbs class achieved nothing.

Their ranking right now is skewed big time by sheer amount of numbers.

It’s interesting they are getting these commitments while under quarantine.

I’d bet money some of the bigger names jump ship before this is over.

Not sold.

What Clemson signed last year was insane for them. You could easily argue it was the number one class.

Honestly this class for UT isn’t looking much better than 2020 and they barely cracked the top 10. Now some of these guys may get bumps if a season is played and that could change things but I’m also betting if things change so will some of the commitments.

I’m all for it though because the more excited the fan base gets the harder their hearts will break.

Tennessee had a winning season in 2019. The best time to brag is after winning. Just don't bring up the loss to Georgia State.

Last I looked, even Nebraska is undefeated for the 2021 season. I am sure the Nebraska 2021 recruiting class is reflective of the team's efforts on the field the past five years. USing 247 rankings, Nebraska is 5th in ranking in the B1G West, ahead of Illinois and Purdue. heck, even Rutgers and Maryland are ahead of Nebraska.

LB Randolph Kpai (South Dakota)
OL Teddy Prochazka (Nebraska)
OLB Patrick Payton (Florida)
QB Heinrich Haarberg (Nebraska)
LB Christopher Paul Jr. (Georgia)
OL Henry Lutovsky (Iowa)
OL Branson Yager (Utah)

If current projections hold, the top class will probably come down to OSU and UGA

Isn't Kentucky the new Tennessee?
Kentucky fans don’t have delusions of being on Bama’s level. Mark Stoops has turned them into a respectable program though. Completely different set of expectations though.

I loved how I saw some article pumping them up as ‘the best out of state recruiting team in the nation’. Meanwhile I’m sitting there thinking, hmmm when you don’t have a ton of in state talent and you can’t keep the talented one’s in state, don’t you have to put all your efforts on out of state recruiting?

I mean that’s mainly due to the earlier signing period. It seems crazy when you compare it, but the new early signing period is really catching on and speeding up the process.

Also, a ton of kids want to commit early to ‘lock in’ to their top choice. What you will also see is kids ‘choosing to decommit’ when they are kindly told there aren’t enough roster spots.

Definitely happens that way. But, let me be sure I have this right. When a school "offers" they really aren't "committed" to that offer? It is an offer unless I can find a better player to offer it to. And when a kid "commits" to a school, they really aren't "committed"? It is a committment unless a better school gives me an offer. Do I have that correct?

If so, this whole "committment" thing is really just a big old pile of "I/we MIGHT agree to get together later", correct?

Or in high school terms, "I'll go with you (or take you) to the prom IF later on I don't get a better offer or you can't find a better looking date to ask."

I mean we are taking the word of a 17/18 year old kid as gospel. There are also things called ‘soft offers’ by schools. Really, offers and commitments are absolutely worthless until that ink hits the page AND it is faxed to the school.

Great time to point out, faxes are outdated as hell and it’s the one time of year the football team actually uses it.

SEC east is going to be interesting the next few seasons IMO.

UGA aint going anywhere.

UF is on the rise again, already contending.

UT LOOKS as if things may be falling into place for a run.

UK seems at least ok ATM.

South Carolina... interesting combo in that staff now, could surprise a few teams.

Mizzu..? Who knows or cares, they shouldn’t even be there.

Vandy sucks as usual.

Im lookin forward to seeing how it plays out TBH.

Yes the class can implode before NSD1 and NSD2 or on the field once they have a chance, but it's a solid class on paper. This class is going to be wild because of no camps during the spring or summer and sr seasons in jeopardy as of now.

There will be a lot of decommits once schools can offer visits.. and it will be a mix of the schools pushing certain kids out and kids falling in love on an official somewhere else. So these 3 star kids people seem to love to make fun of are actually legit compared to the 4 stars who tested well as SOPHOMORES or have the measurables they like to project on.
