I thought this would a be a pretty cool discussion for the off-season, assuming we get a season next year. Basically take your last 4 coaches, so current coach and last 3 and make a 1st, 2nd and 3rd team of all the players that consisted over that time span. Obviously this will be much more difficult for others than it will be for myself, but I'm genuinely curious about how far back this list will span and who the players will be on the list. If @Hitman Hart wants to make a list, since I think that was the only P6 coaching change he doesn't have to include Forbes since he just got there.

Anyways, here's my coaches to choose from: Richard Pitino, Tubby Smith, Dan Monson, Clem Haskins. Spanning 1986-Present

1st Team:
PG: Bobby Jackson
SG: Veshon Leonard
SF: Sam Jacobson
PF: Willie Burton
C: Daniel Oturu

2nd Team:
PG: Marcus Carr
SG: Blake Hoffarber
SF: Amir Coffey
PF: Kris Humphries
C: Joel Pryzbilla

3rd Team:
PG: Andre Hollins
SG: Vincent Grier
SF: Quincy Lewis
PF: Trevor Mbakwe
C: Rick Rickert

Tough list, but fun exercise none the less.

so can i list Odom players, b/c i've always considered Prosser and Gaudio to be the same entity.? CJ Harris was the only decent contributor on a Gaudio team that wasn't signed by Skip Prosser

Yeah that's fair. Plus I completely forgot about Bzdelik, holy shit. I came up with that stipulation simply so you could include Odom players. Lol. Not knowing I would completely forget the Bzdelik "era". Lol.

Yea good idea, but a not useful exercise for Villanova Basketball. :dhd:

2 coaches over the past 28 years.

Just do it! I could probably name a pretty good team without knowing much prior to 1995ish. It should be easier for programs like yours!

I've been a Villanova fan only since the Lappas days. A college basketball fan a little longer than that.

1st
G-Jalen Brunson
G-Ryan Arcidiacano
F-Mikal Bridges
F-Josh Hart
C-Jason Lawson

2nd
G-Randy Foye
G-Kerry Kittles
F-Kris Jenkins
F-Dante Cunningham
C-Dan Ochefu

3rd
G-Scottie Reynolds
G-Allan Ray
F-Eric Eberz
F-Curtis Sumpter
C-Mouph Yarou

As is expected, Nova is a guard heavy program and I struggled to come up with more frountcourt players. Hart is really a guard, but they played him as a forward, so...

Scottie Reynolds is 3rd team here but was a 1st team AA american (though I didn't really like him that much). Mouph Yarou is a 3rd team forward, but was a space filler during mediocre years.

Had to leave off some nice guards like Alvin Williams and Lowry.

Lowry is the best player to ever come out of Nova, but was 3rd option when he played.

Yeah I was curious how'd you go with so many great guards in the last 25 years. Even a guy like DiVicenzo didn't make the cut, but I actually understand that given he really only contributed for a year. Good problem to have.

I know probably 2/3rds of these guys.

But a few more because they played in the NBA.

That 97 team was beyond outstanding. Jacobson was my favorite player from that team.

Yea D would have been maybe 5th team.

I would venture Villanova is probably near the tops in producing guards. ESPN had an article and name Kentucky, but that was in terms of NBA guys like John Wall and Malik Monk who only play a year of college.

Good big men are much harder to recruit on the college level. Good guards are in abundance.

lmao, yeah. Bzdelik's tenure had far more fan backlash than Manning's. We're talking about "Fire Bzdelik" billboards and a full page ad in the 2013 ACC tournament guide. Manning never had to deal with any of that

i do think Manning's tenure has kind of vindicated Bzdelik in a way. Bzdelik wasn't the problem, he was a symptom. Ron Wellman was the problem.

1st team

PG- Chris Paul

SF- Josh Howard
PF- Rodney Rogers

SF- James Johnson
PF- Al-Farouq Aminu
C- John Collins

3rd team

PG- Ish Smith
G- Robert O'Kelley
G- Craig Dawson
PF- Chris King
C- Darius Songaila

chose Songaila over Eric Williams, b/c Songaila was a more skilled player. He also didn't have the luxury of catching dimes from Chris Paul for two years.

went with O'Kelly and Dawson over CJ Harris, b/c O'Kelley and Dawson actually played on good teams. I penalized the "good" players on the Bzdelik and Manning squads. Collins is the exception to that rule, b/c he's been pretty damn good in the NBA so far and he had a historically good offensive efficiency rate during his sophomore season at Wake

i also don't think i've ever noted this before on here, but I grew up in the same neighborhood as CJ Harris. He had even been to my house a few times.

That first team is so sick. Paul and Childress in the same backcourt is so filthy. Like Justin Gray on 2nd team. I always thought he never got enough pub and was always underrated. I only recognize a couple 3rd teamers with Ish and Songalia.

Dawson was the third option on the Howard/Songaila teams of the early 2000s. Pretty efficient scorer. Shot 40% from long range during his four years @ Wake

King played in the early 90s under Odom. his stats looked good, so i put him on the 3rd team, lmao. i'm also pretty sure that King played a big role in Duncan coming to Wake

O'Kelly was my coach at the Dave Odom b-ball camp in the early 2000s. Had a solid career, outside of a weird junior year. Was the #1 scoring option at Wake between the Duncan years and the Songaila/Howard years.

if Wake had landed Tyrese Rice (Rice waited and waited for Prosser to recruit him), Wake probably would have been a top 10-15 team during Gray's senior year. He probably would have received some pub then

4 coaches since Richardson. Wow...

5 if you include the one day that Dana Altman was our coach :D

After Nolan was fired there were rumors that Bill Self was interested before he took the Kansas job but after the controversy with all of that we felt like we needed to make a minority hire so we ended up with Heath.

That is a nice group of players. Really balanced across the positions and many of those guys stayed several years.

OSU is an underrated program when it comes to college hoops.

No way I personally would put Cook above Craft. Craft gave you 4 years. I would consider putting him over D Russell too.

Yes I went back and forth over how to rank them. Obviously one and dones didn't give much. In hindsight Buford should definitely be over Cook.
