I just read this. So sad. He seemed like a great guy. It doesn't seem like that log ago when he was still on the Tigers broadcast team. RIP

Rest In Peace Mr. Tiger.

10th man ever elected to tHOF on his first ballot.
Perhaps he was a lights out defender. I seem to remember that he was a 1 in STRAT-O_MATIC in right field.
I guess he was popular with the media and that is why he got in on the first ballot. I never liked that aspect of the voting. I mean, no one in their right mind would choose him over DiMaggio and he didn't make the first ballot.

With all due respects, belongs in the Compiler's wing of the HOF. Not a dominator at any point in his career other than, perhaps, a brief two year period when he was very young.

So Kaline's war of 92.8 hands down better than DiMaggio's 79..1.

Kaline has more at bats , Home runs, and hits. Was a better defender.

I can see the majority taking Kaline over Dimaggio.

DiMaggio missed 3 years due to WWII. He played 9 years and 1100 less games then Kaline. Kaline had 3300 more ABs 900 more hits and 38 more HRs.

Now I have always been of the opinion that Kaline is underrated, and should be considered as about equal to Clemente. But yes I would take DiMaggio over Kaline every day.

You kidding me? DiMaggio lost 3 prime years to WW2. yeah, Kaline had more longevity but this isn't even close as far as peak play goes. Not to bash on Kaline because he was a great player.

A compiler with over 90 WAR, finished in the top 10 in the AL eleven times (eight of which were top 5) and had a career 134 OPS+.

What a stupid take.

When you compile a 92.8 WAR, you're pretty good

I can see him playing catch with Roberto Clemente (from about 300 feet away - heavenly social distancing)
Always liked the guy. Just always a short notch below the best of his era but still a solid player. I believe his last MLB hit was #3000?

That was Roberto Clemente ... another strong armed right fielder who was also an amazing human!!
