I mean I guess it's an upgrade, Martin averaged a whole 0.9 yard better than Wadman in 2019 and they had the same average in 2018.

What about hang time and inside 20?

Avg punt to me isn’t quite as important. Obviously you want someone who punts far but all about placement.

He was a pro bowl alternate in 2018. I don’t follow punters enough but he has always been known as one of the better non elite punters.

Couldn't find hangtime but Martin had 2 more punts inside the 20 on 2 less attempts.

Martin also had a better Net average by 2 yards.

That is a lot of money for a punter. I am guessing one of Daniel and Wadman will be released. The other will stay for competition during OTAs, if there are such an activity.

According to some research, he’s getting about $2.3 million a year which puts him at about 14th in the NFL for highest punter salary.

Hang time is simple
1 second for every ten yard
According to our ST coach

He is an upgrade in my opinion but how much...I wouldn't say a huge difference. He was in the top-10 in both fair catch punts and downed punts so makes me think his hang time has to be up there. Which would be huge for our team that struggles to cover punts.

Doesn’t anyone account for 50% of games being played at altitude when comparing distance?

Martin also handled all kickoffs for Lions. And their kicker is Matt Prater who has a pretty strong leg himself.

Anyone find it odd that we signed 3 players from the Lions in free agency?

Only because it means we signed more from one team than the Texans for a change.

The Lion play 50% of their games in a dome with no weather conditions, I’d say it evens out.

Great point and as long as he has good placement in situations I am down.

Not that this guy is elite but he seems to be at least mid level punter which is better then bottom feeder.

Man, I miss Mike Horan

I think Colquitt is the only good punter we have had since. Seems like we find a good punter once in a blue moon and it takes us forever to find a new one when he is gone.

Mike Horan
Tom Rouen
Britton Colquitt

bunch of scrubs between.

Rex Kern led the league this past year in a couple important punting categories. Is he a scrub? :)

Brett Kern- We cut him after 1.5 years. We don’t get credit for that. Dumb on our part.

He’d be on that top level list had we kept him.

I remember this guy dominated the Broncos in the game last season as a head to head match with Wadman. It caused me to make a post that everyone in the league had a better punter than Wadman.

Springstein pointed out that Martin gets to punt at altitude now - in the comparison to Wadman. The other distinction between the two is that Wadman punts poorly at crucial moments of the game - with no pressure he punts well. Martin is much more reliable. Hallelujah!

Ya well we also had Riley Dixon and now he's off being above average for the Giants.
