Dunbar has missed 14 games the past two years. I think the new coaching staff has taken note of that. My guess is Dunbar's agent went to the Redskins talking extension and RR said prove it this year. He is the best corner on the team when he plays but playing time is important. New coach said he is going to change the culture. I think this is part of the change.

Dunbar is a legit good corner. He’s not “a good corner on a shitty team.” He’s a good corner.

That being said, he isn’t “I get to make demands” good. At least I hope not.

The Redskins can go 3-13 without him just as easily as they can with him.

Same as Trent Williams.

Dont want to be here anymore? Fine. Put them on the block, get a good offer, and ship them out.

Bye!

Dunbar is doing the right thing. He has no protection and has outplayed his contract value. He wants an extension and had ALL the leverage.

It makes sense that he would want some protection and some loyalty from the organization. No matter what, he will come back to take the 3.5 million he is set to make this upcoming season; however, I think it would be wise and prudent for Washington to at least wag a bone his way and discuss it.

So of course, considering it would be wise, we won’t.

ok, that makes sense.
man tough side of the business
It is a tough business and EVERY situation is different, including Dunbar's. Was not an NFL WR and converted to CB which took some time to develop. The team kept him around hoping his athleticism would pay off and it did. Instead of giving the new regime time to put the plan together, it seems Dunbar got ahead of that plan and made his feeling known, likely at the advice of his agent. Either way, I'm not sure we pay for a guy who cannot stay on the field or a guy who demands a trade or release in this situation.

New regime in place gk, perhaps they will or have. Dunny in his short stint as starter has problems with staying on the field. He has actually been paid for the better part of 2 years to not be on the field. He is still under contract so either play out the contract while waiting to work out a new and fair deal or you will likely be traded. It's business, not personal.

Dunbar doesnt have any leverage. He’s a good cb on a bad team, who is already under contract. He doesnt seem to be the type of player who has enough hand to be calling his own shots.

Sticking around as an undrafted free agent, and becoming more than a serviceable player, while commendable, automatically means that he outplayed his contract value, considering it was literally zero. So that’s irrelevant.

Perhaps he just wants to know where he stands. In that case, the Redskins might very easily guarantee his paltry 3.2m one year contract, and extend it by a few years, thereby ensuring they have at least one good (albeit injury prone) cb under contract for a few years.

Of course, if he’s looking for big money, then they should ship him out to the highest bidder and suck just the same without him as they would if he was in the fold.

Ironically he only follows one person on Twitter and that happens to be TW. Go figure

That’s interesting.

I dont think there’s anything wrong with Dunbar asking for a trade (might happen) or a release (not gonna happen), I just think he thinks he’s more important to the redskins than he is.

Another possibility is dangling him in the trade market, and seeing what the market will bear.

maybe some team would offer a midround pick for him - or better - if they happen to follow PFF or take stock in various analytics.

In that case, one would hope that the Redskins would match + 10% or something that says “we stand corrected. Here’s something for the trouble we put you through.”

Or take the picks.

Yes it is a new regime. He has had injury issues but was by far our best and just plain good when healthy. That is why he is doing the right thing.

He has already stated he will play this season and honor his contract. He is also trying to leverage some protection out of the next contract.

They can’t trade him after this season without a tag. If he doesn’t get an extension before the season, he should not come back here at all.

He has all the leverage. He is currently underpaid for his talents, he is good, and he is by far our best, maybe only corner worth a damn.

Dunbar isn’t playing on his rookie contract. He is playing on a three year deal signed after his rookie contract. His draft position is not relevant.

Paragraph three is my entire point. Dunbar is doing nothing wrong, will honor his contract, and is simply looking for some protection.

I agree with paragraph four as well. Make a three year, 20 million dollar extension offer with ten million in guarantees.

If he doesn't want to be here, trade his ass. He isn't that good that he can make such demands. We might get a 3rd or 4th for him. But more importantly get rid of the malcontents and start the Rivera era with a clean slate.

I would prefer a possible player for player scenario but a 4th if pick is involved seems reasonable. I like Dunny and the Skins put in a lot of work to make him the player he became, but Dunny is only thinking of himself. Play for another contract or go somewhere else. It's that simple.

Just listening to Brian Mitchell. He said that PFF came out with CB rankings for last year and Dunbar was ranked, by them, as the second best CB in the league based on passes defensed. Dunbar has taken that to heart and believes he deserves to be paid as such. What PFF doesn't factor in is his availability. He has missed a significant number of games the last few years.

Personally, while he may be one of the best CBs on this team, he is in no way the 2nd best CB in the league. He is good, above average when he is available, but he needs to play full season as taking on the #1WR every week before he can make such demands. This is probably a case of an agent over hyping his client based on some positive press.

Again, if he doesn't want to be a part of this team, grant him his wish. But if he stays, he as to remember that he is but a cog in a 53 man team that is working toward the same goal of a SB win. If his focus is on himself, then we don't need him here.

I think the guy deserves a pay raise for his on the field play, his inability to stay on the field is why he is likely going to be traded or gone after this year.
