Good to see Steve Sabol in, too. NFL films legacy can't be denied and I learned so much from watching about the league before my time

When you say "passed over"...does that mean only X number of HCs can go in a given year? Or they simply chose not to put Vermeil in yet?

i dont think there was a set number for this year, especially with the special panel, and them expanding the inductee's, so yes i think chose not to put in yet is the correct answer. I just posted a thread about this years class, that includes a bit of criticism for Cowher getting in.

Chose to induct them instead of him.

actually, since your a pittsburgh guy. They had Ed Bouchette on the radio yesterday. He point blank said no way Cowher gets in if it wasnt the special panel, and the "Centennial Class". Said he didnt think Cowher was a HOF coach. He did in the next breath cover his tracks a bit and say he deserves it. But he was quite blunt up front. He also again, brought up that Cowher's votes were never even remotely close to getting him in, until this year with the "special" panel.

Okay

Bill...149-90-1, Dick 120-109...what am I missing on Dick's resume?

Vermeil coached one of the greatest teams to ever step on the field. Took two different organizations to a Super Bowl in two different eras decades apart. The Eagles run he had was especially impressive given how much of a shit organization it was when he took over. Rams too for that matter when you see where they were when he returned to coaching to take them over and where they were when he left them after winning the Super Bowl.

If we are being honest, if the refs didn't make it a point to hand the game to the Steelers than Cowher would have never won a Super Bowl.

Actually a Steeler Nation guy from TN originally, but know Bouchette well.

I don't put the same kind of screws to HCs as I do the players for the HOF. I just chalk this up to being Ed's opinion on the matter.

Think about these HOF coaches for a second...Hank Stram, I know about the AFC SB win, Marv Levy, Mike Ditka.

Bill has more wins than all of them.

Off the top...I want to make this clear. I'm happy Cowher made it obviously, but I'm not saying Cowher should be in and Dick should not, that's just the reality.

Vermeil...good HC, made a big comeback after being retired for awhile. For all of the good you noted...at the end of the day his record is 120-109, 1 SB win.

On Cowher...149-90-1, 1 SB win.

Honestly, once the game is over, the record is the record...no one goes back and rakes over the details of how they won or loss unless you're trying to build a case for or against someone.

lol, to each his own I guess. I see some people calling for Dick Vermeil...he's 11 games over .500.

Like I said, bar lowered. Soon there will be calls for Schottenheimer.... I do give Vermeil credit for a real SB win though.

Cowher's only Super Bowl win was backed into as well. Ben never crossed the goal line. It sucked ass that Cowher won a SB that way, but it was almost made up for by seeing Fats Holmgren almost have a coronary.
