You could see the Moxley double cross of Jericho coming just on the simple fact the segment was so long.

Segments are not that long unless something is up.

Lots of stuff I liked on the show this week. MJFs promo was great. The diamond doll line was hysterical. He walks the fine line as an entertaining heel but still one you want to boo.

Enjoyed the Jurassic Express/Best Friends match. Those two acts are probably AEWs biggest successes as far as spotlighting obscure talent and turning them into stars on a national level. I thought they played off each other well because everyone in the match was so over. Orange Cassidy is always a weekly highlight.

Like most people I've been underwhelmed by the Dark Order stuff but I was intrigued by the pitch for Christopher Daniels to join.

The show did close to a million viewers so it's regaining momentum

I like the dark order. But having the nightmare collective at the same time is just weird overkill and dulls it down.

yeah the alien gimmick is weird but statlander is talented. But man...Riho is so over anyway. I don’t know how long it will last but apparently the 18-40 crowd loves them some Japanese school girl. (as for asuka, I never got why they took Paige off her so quickly. That was exactly what she needed to get long title reign).

Obviously Adam page, the best Adam with a 4 letter last name ending in e, is turning heel soon. And probably for the best as he is overshadowed by the rest of the elite. But he’s got enough talent to get the belt at some point. I see him on a DDP like path to the title. And probably the same level (not a guy who carries the company, but won’t embarrass you in a transitional role).

im curious if there’s a reason why nxt did so poorly. Was everyone really waiting for Moxley?

NXT was actually up 173K viewers from last week while AEW was down 20k. But if you look, NXT just had back to back weeks of taped shows so I’m sure some people weren’t aware that this week was going to be brand new and live.

Next week will be the big deciding factor because all holidays are over and everyone knows that both shows are back to being live every week. AEW hasn’t done in the 900k range since their post pay-per-view bump back in November so with both shows back on track next week will tell us what the immediate future holds for ratings.

Rumor is Matt Hardy is the leader. Just waiting for his contract to be up soon.

That rumor, so far, has no basis. It was literally just fan speculation because whoever the Exalted One is said the word "wonderful". Broken Matt says "wonderful" (among other things) so people jumped to conclusions. Then, being an idiot, Dave Meltzer picked it up and put it in one of his reports as if it were news and other dirt sheets followed suit. Meltzer is a fine but man if he doesn't post some dumb shit sometimes.

That's fair. AEW took Christmas week off completely and then followed it up with 2 of their strongest shows rating wise in months. I thought the New Years rating was hard to gauge because it was a holiday/football day which hurts ratings but there was no live NXT which helped ratings.
This week I considered a clean rating and I was surprised it did that well.

I personally don't think it's the NXT schedule but focusing on Moxley and Jericho who are their biggest stars and using Double A and DDP to bring in a nostalgia audience that's helping. Next week will give a definitive answer

I don't know, Meltzer could have squashed that rumor in a couple texts. I think Meltzer is floating that out there from an inside source so fans have patience with the Dark Order angle

I doubt it. Meltzer floats a lot of pure speculation sometimes because he has to fill his newsletter with something. It could very well end up being Hardy, but at this point, its purely a guess. That report was based off nothing but fan speculation and he offered no further incite.

My take is that Meltzer put the rumour out there for a reason. Even if it's not Hardy as the leader of the Dark Order, AEW wants us to think this is an important storyline leading to a major payoff. I think (hope?) it's going somewhere big

Yeah, I hear ya. But my point is Meltzer is not above just throwing shit against the wall sometimes. He took fan speculation and ran with with it
