3 episodes in. Really good, but no clue if he's the real deal or a fraud.

I guess that's the point.
I binged 5 or 6. Still not sure.

Liking the show.

I doubt you find out until the end (if you do this season)

I finished it, because I was bored yesterday and had nothing to do... and it is a quick watch since all episodes are no longer than 45 minutes...

I hated how it ended...

So if he does have the powers, then why did he leave EVERYONE worse than before, he could have healed the cancer child, and the reverend's daughter...
If there is a second season, they cant continue the is he is he not for another 10 episodes, that is too repetitive... and if he is, then I hope he is evil... cause he seemed evil at the end...

I liked the first season and will watch the second when it comes out. Has a little of a Homeland feel.

Confusion does appear to be the name of the game, whether intentional or not.

Any chance that the Messiah is also proficient in some kind of hypnosis or mass hypnosis?

Regarding the 'powers' of the Messiah, did anyone notice that the CIA operative had her hospital bracelet on when she met the Messiah for the first time in the holding room to interrogate him? That might explain how he knew her name.

He also knew other details, though, right? But yeah, they show her noticing the bracelet when she leaves.

True. But, once he knew her name and that she would be handling him, it's also possible that Russian counter intelligence would have a portfolio on her as one of the folks most likely to interrogate him. Just as likely that he knew that Aviram would be the Israeli intelligence officer to interrogate him before.

Because he can only act on God's instructions. It about being part of God's plan. You don't have to understand it, but I believe that is the idea.

Furthermore, I don't believe it will ever be made crystal clear on whether or not he is or is not divine. I think that is kind of the point. How would the world and government agencies react if someone like Jesus was around today.

They did a pretty good job of making most of the miracles seem coincidental albeit extremely unlikely and I understand that they are making him out to be an excellent illusionist.... but DUDE, how can you fake standing next to a fucking tornado? I mean wtf, you think he was just hedging his bets... 'its all or nothing right here' - type of shit?

Again, it is technically possible, but extremely unlikely and you have to have the biggest balls in the universe. The plane crash/bringing them back to life... no way for us to know about the 'bringing them back' part, but surviving the plane crash with no injuries is also possible but extremely unlikely. The boy getting shot and the walking on water could be illusions (no way to know either way), but if the walking on water was an illusion, it would have to be one of the most impressive ever, right? I mean simple in nature, but this dude has not been left alone at pretty much any point since they left the tornado town, he has people recognizing him and following him everywhere he goes and he did it without hesitation while completely surrounded. All things considered, that would be pretty incredible. Side note, it was frustrating that they didn't really show the 'walking on water' thing in a world where everyone has a camera on them.

But all in all, I would bet that he will be martyred in a coming season without it ever being made clear whether he was real or not.

doubt it. They touched on him being a highly trained illusionist/magician, but not much on that.

Again if he does have Devine powers. Then I hope he is evil. He seemed like he was at the end imo. He seemed like he was all about messing with the Israeli guy.

See I disgree.

I think he is only giving him a little information at a time because too much would cause him to freak out about the possibility of God being real and coupling that with the things he has done. As the Israeli guy made clear multiple times that he doesn't believe in God. I think Golshiri is essentially grooming him to become a more central role in his movement.

Same for the kid that stayed at the Israeli border and was eventually let in and nearly killed by the suicide bomber. I think he is going to have a more central role in the movement as well in the coming seasons.

Figure another week or so before we can start talking openly without using the spoiler tag...

if he is a charlatan, than how did he know about the tornados with enough time to get from Israel to Texas? I believe we only know enough about them now to only get less than an hour’s warning. Flying from Israel to America, even assuming all government agencies are involved, would take about 13 hours, I think.

The shot kid needs no explanation. Too easy to fake.

Walking on the mirror pool in the Mall, while totally possible, needs prep time and a team. No way would the platform be able to be erected and disassembled without anyone knowing (US government included). And yes, bad writing/editing/whatever not actually showing him walking on the water. And all the phones that we saw filming it were only filming him from the waist up. Not likely.

His people skills CAN be explained away, to a point. He could have studied dossiers on the key figures (certainly the CIA chick and the Mossad dude for starters). The prostitute could be explained away with some high-level charisma. Fake mediums do that kind of shit all the time.

I am not a religious scholar by any means. I actually consider myself atheist/agnostic. But I assume there were some allegories hidden in the show that I was unable to pick up on. It would be interesting to hear from some religious nuts on what they thought about the show.

The tornado could have been coincidental, but the fact that he decided to stand along side it is what is fucking crazy.

I don't think it was bad writing or editting at all that they didn't show the walking on water. Actually, the contrary. I think it was very smartly executed the way the camera panned and the people watching always seemed to be in the perfect placement. The very next scene (or next episode as I think this may have happened at the end of one) is a still photo of him standing on the water.

I wouldn't even call him a 'fake medium'. In that type of circumstance, I think just your normal deduction could have figured out she was a prostitute... and obviously prostitutes get paid. I just don't think she expected to believe him when she met him.

Not sure about directly coorelatable allegories, but it is rather clear that someone said 'what if Jesus came back in todays world' - and ran with it and made a show about it. However, in order to balance viewership based on religion, they make the guy no conform to one religion. This is also a smart thing because Jews, Christians, and Muslims are all abrahamic religions. Essentially meaning (and I am being somewhat vague in saying this) that they all believe in the same God, but differ in the rules, commandments, stories, prophets, etc.. thereafter. Saying that might be going a little too far, but just picture me using air quotes around the world "essentially" lol. But obviously, walking on water in the U.S. was a feat designed for christians. The showing up in a yellow robe preaching about God is relatable to Islam, and I assume season 2 will pick up with another feat related to Islam due to the ending.

Didn’t they say that he stood in the opening storm for “a month”? Couldn’t that allude to him standing there for 40 days and 40 nights? Then he led his people to the promised land (Jerusalem). All very Moses-like, so that could be the Jewish tie-in.

no spoiler since all that happens in ep 1...
