You get this thing out on the water yet?
Update: Finally got around to registering the darn boat. So once I get the numbers painted on the side I'm good to go. Surprisingly cheap, only cost me like $14. I was nervous because some people have had trouble registering it with their state because Intex only gives you a printout of the information and not a title. But, went smooth and now I'm pumped to get it all on the water.....annnnnd it's January lol. Only six months until the waters open again.

Update:

Finally got my registration numbers painted on. God damn it was tricky. I was using a special paint for inflatables and the stuff was like painting water onto the boat. It was so thin that it was impossible to work with the stencils. I think it turned out OK though, all things considered.

It's now fully legal, so next stop is trying it out on the water with the motor for the firs time.

What is that thing sticking out of the raft just above the c and the 1? Is that where you sit?

I don't have a vehicle capable of towing a boat. Nice thing about this is that it can fold and fit in the trunk of my car and, unlike a Kayak, can fit multiple people.

Just giving you a hard time man. If you are on the water that is a good thing

FINALLY! I got out on the boat this past weekend. Motor worked great, I clocked myself on my phone going about 5mph up river on the Huron River. So not bad. Out for a few hours and caught, drum roll, 0 fish lol.

Though, most of my time was figuring out how to get everything set up how I like it, exploring the river and finding spots where fish might be.

Well, since you didn't accomplish that bit, you have a good reason to go out again. :suds:

Nice! Figuring out where you want everything is easier said than done. I've been very reluctant to drill into mine so far until I'm sure.

Still kind of cold (you're northern too right?) I haven't had much luck either but I also haven't fished much so far this year. Hit those current breaks and eddy's!

Yeah, SE Michigan by Ann Arbor. I think it was 65 when I went out, the water was probably in the 50-60ish degree range. I just had no idea where to fish it. I was running into super shallow areas and getting stuck and then drifting into parts that were 15-20 feet deep or more. I need to get a depth finder, otherwise I'm just kinda casting blind at spots. I pulled up a lot of weeds.

Is that a pretty shallow river? The river I fish most (the Kiski) is probably on average less than 8 feet deep. I've been thinking a lot about adding a depth finder but I'm not sure how much use it will be in such shallow water. They're great on lakes but I'd rather fish moving water.

In rivers, on a boat, I usually just beat the bank for the most part. I look for cover laying in the water (trees, weeds, rocks) and/or minus that I watch the current. Usually there is a seam where there is fast water and slower water. I find that I cast at it. Smallies tend to use those to funnel food to them. Something like a rock can hold fish on either side. Usually the less aggressive ones will be in the eddy downstream of the rock while the aggressive ones will sit in the current on the upstream side. Either way they usually seem to hold fish.

It's dammed up in two spots around Ann Arbor, and I was fishing above the first dam a little ways up. So it was deeper than the normal river but shallower than the lake right above the dam. From what I could tell, around the bends the current cut it super deep (15-20') but on the side away from the current the water was only like 6'' deep. The rest of the river is usually like 2-5' deep up to the dam lake. But even as close as I live to this, I've never really tried to fish it because I didn't have a boat. so I really went in blind. I've fished up stream where it's 2-5', which is a totally different experience.

I wonder if Navionics would be of help? Their online chart viewer might have those depths. Google that. See if that helps. They've got a lot of the lakes around me but not much river. Might be different for your area though.

Just took a look,

That bend was where those pictures were taken. Says about what I knew lol. The "pulpy peat" was where I was catching weeds and the 10' depth was where I couldn't tell how deep it was but is also where the river channel is. I'll have to go back out when I get some kind of depth finder to find ledges to fish on. I bet I could jig that bend and get something.

I bought a used boat 2015 Key West 203f with 150 Yamaha (just under 200 hours):

Mine is white though. It gets delivered Friday and plan on going after saltwater trout on Saturday.

Let’s just say anchoring and tides are something I’m still figuring out and need more practice before taking “friends” out. The intercoastal doesn’t work like a lake I’m discovering LOL.

Anchoring has been my nemesis this past year on kayaks too. That's not a tide thing but a small boat in current thing. Thinking about putting a couple of power poles on the back of them. That will cost more than the boat though so...
