I like it! Coaches can grow. He was a fantastic OC at Alabama and done well as a HC at FAU. Just like Saban is not the same coach at Alabama as he was at Michigan State or LSU, Kiffin will not be the same coach at Arkansas that he was at Tennessee or USC. I think Arkansas is making a splash hire. Let me be the first to say: "Wooh Pig!"

Evidently our AD has been wanting Kiffin for weeks but Jerry Jones and our BOT wanted to throw $7 million per year at Matt Campbell first and he had until tomorrow to decide and turned it down today so we quickly moved on Kiffin. Yurachek (the AD) came close to hiring Kiffin when he was at Houston. Rumor is the DC would be Randy Shannon. Also heard Chizik mentioned but who knows.

Sounds like he could bring a solid staff with him. He could be a disaster but we need some excitement right now. Just hoping all of the other recent openings don’t change anything.

Campbell is a much better and more proven coach than Kiffin. That is a smart move if that is the case.

Kiffin would be perfect for some ol' fashioned Southwestern conference style cheating in the modern SEC.

Let's do this.

I think he’d be a safer hire too but it would be harder to sell a 7-5 Big 12 coach to the casual fan.

Not like we have room to be picky right now though. Virtually anything would be an upgrade.

Why is Christ’s name would Campbell leave Iowa state for fucking Arkansas?

More money, top 25 recruiting classes (30 spots higher than ISU), better facilities, better fan support. Better history/tradition.

Only issue is the brutal division you have to play in every year and the big rebuild he’d have to do when he’s already done it there to an extent.

He wants to win Championships at Iowa State and bristles when people thinks he cannot do so. He was very, very close to making the Big Xii CCG this year. Arkansas has much to offer the right coach, but so does Iowa State. You would be quite surprised by the facilities and the fan support. I actually heard there was talk of a home and home that didn't work out. That would have been nice! Good luck with Kiffin or whoever Arkansas hires. I would like to see Hogs good again.

Yeah, at the end of the day all that matters is wins and losses. Y’all would kick our ass for sure. Just glancing at your schedule the other day you have more close losses than I think I could handle in a season.

Happy to see La’Michael Pettway finally receive some good coaching too.

Arkansas has had a coach that crashed his motorcycle with his mistress on the back, one that looked like he ate his mistress, another that entered flying on a wire and now potentially Lane Kiffin in a decade. I earnestly feel bad for them and hope this works out. :tsk:

Pettway had a GREAT year and was in game plan from day one.

Mixed bag with the close losses. Sure beats getting blow out, which stopped in year two. Most of the Big Xii teams are good but not great. So, it just depends on which team is more focused and a little luck here and there each week.

Nobody is super scary like Alabama, but nobody is lame like Vanderbilt either. Heck, even Kansas (worst team in the league) has a bad ass running back (Pooka Williams, Jr) and Les Miles as HC.

Oddly, ISU was actually favored in 8/9 Conference games this year. No shame in losing @ Baylor by 2 and @ Oklahoma by 1, but being favored by 10 at home over Oklahoma State and fighting from behind all day and ultimately losing on a pick six was baffling. Losing @ K-State as a 5 point favorite sucked too.

Growing pains, I guess. Next year, ISU should be one of the pre-season favorites with all of the young offensive skill players returning and another year of Campbell-ism. Wish we had Pettway for another year! My buddy and I called him "7 for 7" every time he caught a pass!

Good luck to Arkansas! I've been to a football game there and loved it, but I haven't made it for basketball yet. One day! If Iowa State goes there for the SEC-Big Xii Challenge, I'd make the trip.

Wooh Pig!
