yes screw the cable company with legit alternatives. THose are things like Hulu Live, Playstation Vue, Youtube TV, Sling TV, AT&T Now, Philo, Fubo..................

LOL now it comes out, you are fighting this because you too are a thief trying to find justification for stealing.

So dont pay comcast 225 a month the above alternatives are 16-50 per month.

I dont want to pay for all the crap my wife buys but im not out stealing just because i wana stick it to the man, i mean big box stores have insurance to cover shrink so its not hurting anybody right?

So let me spend your money because i dont want to spend my own, that way i have a cause to fight for mmmkay?

Advocating for people to steal cable isnt a revolution, it is just scummy behavior. Either dont utilize their services thus not paying for it or find an alternative that suits your wants needs at a better rate.

Here is a question for you. Where did you allegedly "Buy" all those movies you have on your PLex server?

Here's the FBI warning about pirating:

The unauthorized reproduction or distribution of a copyrighted work is illegal.

I have never seen/heard a warning about viewing something that may/could be pirated from the
authorities. In fact I'm not sure how one ( viewing public) would go about verifying a sites licenses and such. Think it's more then a stretch to think the viewing public needs to go about checking a sites credentials and licenses before viewing.

If you had read the post you would see i own the physical copies, i rip them to the server for convenience. Except for the ones that i only own digitally from Vudu/Amazon/Microsoft etc but those are not on my private server only my physical disc copies. I dont steal/download anything illegally like some people.

I was not sure of the details. Lots of people with Amazon, Netflix and Hulu copy stuff to their Plex thinking its OK because they have a subscription. Its not.

No the only way is if you actually own the movie.

Netflix allows downloads but they expire after a bit, but it's great to put shows on tablets for after school pick up my youngest watches octonots every day it has to renew once a week or two to keep playing. Some shows only last a few days.

Beyond that it's just illegal.

I have a 126" theater so I don't take the family out we buy when movies are released and watch on our own big screen, much easier with the age range of kids plus cheaper in the long run than taking 5 to the theater and dealing with idiots.

Yup. The new HD projectors they have are pretty awesome too. $100 or so for HD theatre and you can show them right on any wall (or ceiling if thats your thing) crystal clear. Even outside at night if you have a light colored house. They have some 4k out now for a bit more money though.

Well i spent considerably more, i have a custom screen but yea it is way better than going to the theater. the 4k projectors are not bad if you look at their price now vs a 1080 (quality) projector even 5 years ago the prices are comparable (not the low end pj's )

The biggest draw to plex initially was so i could just have better management plus when disc's woudl get left out my middle child when he was younger loved snapping them in half and playing with them too much and it was impossible to hide a wall full of dvd/bluray/games so no i have them all on the server, the discs are in giant billfolds and the original plastic cases are long gone from taking up too much space.

The biggest change was when i went from DVD's to Blurays since they are about 10x larger files meant i went from a server of like 4-8TB to 30 real quick

One of America historically great moments was the Boston Tea party. You be screaming about how illegal that was instead of acknowledging that it was a fight against a corrupt British system of milking her colonies for money.
The enemy has changed from countries to corrupt businesses milking the public for money. Using their advantage as natural monopolies and their lobbyists to help them practical steal money and charge as much as they can get away with. Competition is thee only way to keep them in check and at times that needs to be some that are borderline legit. It's consumers vs big business, I take the side of the consumer, you apparently root for big business.

That’s what we are maaaaan!! The Boston tea party fucking the cable nazis. Fuck them and their monopoly

LOL, Everyone grown up here now but I hear ya with the DVDs. I must have 300 of them that fill up 2 racks. Must have spent 1500 bucks back in the 90s and early 2000s.

I dont really keep track anymore, my wife and i gave up smoking cigs some years ago and ever since that has gone to entertainment budget :D last time we moved i had many boxes of cases and i was tired of it. I was already running a DVR with Windows Media Center and Network Attached Cable Card Tuners (to avoid high cost of box rental and dvr fees of the cable company) so already had a server setup just for doing that and plex was serving up to some less powerful devices that didnt have WMC and were running kodi as the front end to watch live tv since they didnt have DRM here it wasnt necessary to have a WMC front end at every point of use. Eventually got tired of the cable companys tv and switched to only internet and was doing sling etc until i landed on PS Vue but then they sent out that they would start enforcing their bandwidth cap so i did my research and century link had gigabit fiber and no data cap so i signed up (initially it was expensive because lines were new in the area, but it has since been a steady drop and is well below half the inital "introductry price" without any deal original price was like 230 bucks but with a special 6 month deal it was like 120, but now without any deal it is 60) Now i am on Youtube TV, Playstation Vue had horrible marketing and couldnt stay floating which explains why they kept raising their prices to try and stay a float.

My biggest issue i take with what you are doing is when you try to compare it to a legit paid service, and advocate others to do so as if it is. You want to use something we all know isnt 100% legit that is fine and dandy but dont pretend like it is apples to apples when trying to compare to an actual legit cord cutting IPTV service :D (saying you have more options available is not really exclusive to you since anyone can find these shady services as well) i mean the internet is required for both.

Having a legit company you can call and bitch about service is another bonus. I have seen/tested out the KODI services in the past, always felt dirty to even browse them. When i was younger i didnt think about these things the same as now, i used bit torrent sites and did the napster thing, but now i believe in paying for goods/services that i use and enjoy, i call it "voting with my wallet" to keep things like it being produced, if everyone (unlikely i know) refused to pay then quality entertainment would stop being produced and we'd end up with public access being the norm across the board (extreme i know but it serves to prove a point)

So if you don't have cable, where are you getting your internet feed? Is your house a WiFi Hotspot? I pay about $200 a month for Cable, Internet and a land line telephone in a 'Triple Play' package. I pay for the "Premium" and get the movie channels and Sports package. I hate paying for it but, I'm not a techie and I have physical disabilities that restrict what I can do with my hands and feet so climbing up on my roof to install antennas is out of the question. I do have a satellite dish up there that I disconnected because my internet bill had crossed the $100 a month plateau. Then I pissed off everyone in about a quarter mile of my house. I put a password on my WiFi connection because I have a 5GB modem. Everyone all around me was using my signal. There an 8 unit condo behind my house and they were all out on their decks bitching that they lost the "Home-B222" signal and they needed a 'f*ckin' password' for the new one "BigKen0250". I walked out to the fence and asked them what the problem was and they told me they couldn't use their laptops and that their TV signals were screwed up. One of them asked me if I was having problems and I said, "no, everything is perfect." I told them I had the password for BigKen and they asked me for it. I said, it's simple.....each of you pay me $20 a month on the first of every month and I'll give you the password.......Oh yeah, I'm BigKen and I was born in February (02)19(50). I'm paying $100 a month for the internet and you've been using mine for free.......sorry, no more Mr. Nice guy.

I have fiber gigabit internet with no cable for 60 a month(century link). I have a VOIP phone using google voice and an Obi 200 (google voice is free and has a legit # and voicemail etc) and i use Youtube TV for my television experience 50 a month and Pluto TV as well which is 100% free. My YTTV comes with all the local channels as well no additional cost this includes ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CW and some of their off channels i forget the names of but are usually carried as part of their OTA channel lineup for those for instance FOX will be 42.1 and then they have like 42.2 and 42.3 for OTA well YTTV carries some of those too

ALSO LMFAO at your neighbors.

I am surprised you didnt have your router locked down earlier.

One last thought i know this is my 2nd reply to the same message but you dont have to be a techie to do things like Sling TV, Hulu Live TV, Youtube TV, AT&T Now, FUBO TV, Philo, etc if you can install an app on your smart phone you can do it on your tv.

The best for these particular services is probably Roku due to them being neutral parties in the google vs amazon war. It took forever for that one to end and by the time it ended iw as tired of Amazon and replaced fire tv's in half the rooms with Roku TV's but now they have Youtube TV on Fire TV as well.

If you dont want to change out your tv's for built in smart function Roku has the Ultra or Ultimate or whatever which is stand alone box. Androids best is the Shield TV but is a bit pricy. and Amazon has the Fire TV which for the price and what you would use it for is quite nice though i wouldnt get the sticks and not sure if they even make the Fire TV box that has ethernet ports built in last one i saw you needed to buy an adapter( my philosophy is to get as much on hardwired network as possible so all my tv's but 1 are hardwired so are all the computers and xbox's etc)

You guys have some fast ISPs. I miss that.

I just got set up with 8mbit. Sucks ass, but it's the fastest thing I can get right now.

If latency isnt an issue pretty sure Satellite is better than that (want to say 40Mbps) or even a LTE hotspot plan

I play games, so have to keep the latency as low as possible. Still, I'm at 100 ms. such is the island life :)

Ouch, in florida that is bad considering where gaming servers are located. I play competitive games as well and in an FPS or anything where milliseconds matter i feel your pain. How any company is still only offering 8Mbps is beyond me i though we were well beyond that as being a low end standard (i was thinking most places offered 40 or so as a bottom of the barrel offering)

Internet is more intertwined into everyday life that 8Mbps just wont cut it much further down the road. Most streaming already uses at least that much (HD will use more) Are you in a rural area or something?

They do offer 40 here, but apparently not at my location on the island.

Ahhhhhhhhhh island i guess you said that i took it figuratively but shoulda dawned on me duh florida lol

Still amazing they h avent dropped fiber lines yet i mean they dont have to offer gigabit but the more fiber the bring to the area the higher speeds you can get some have ran fiber but only have the infrastructure for 300Mbps not full gig speeds but fiber is still great on latency too
