Additions, Subtractions, new captain, same team. If we are going to win the cup, it's gotta be soon. This year or next year, in my opinion. Who's excited for the new season to start?!

Love the team and will watch every possible game I can, but being honest, I'm not that "pumped" for this season. If the young guys step up, maybe I'll be surprised, but I just don't see us having enough firepower on offense to make a legit cup run. And our goaltending is still a bit suspect (at least to my untrained eyes). Jones is gonna have to stand on his head all year. Hope I'm wrong... would love nothing better than to eat crow!!

I feel like we had a great shot last year, but injuries killed us last year. I do think we need to see if there are any suitable replacements for the goalie position because it's very very hit or miss with both of our guys right now. But, we'll see what we got come this week. Don't think we win the cup this year, but I do think we can make it to, at least, the conference finals again.

Now might be the time to start shopping around for a goalie.

Time for that was last year before the playoffs. or even over the summer. They probably could’ve unloaded Jones on some team now they are stuck with him, unless they give up a prospect and a #1 overall. The options aren’t great either, unless wilson could bamboozle bergivin in Montreal for Carey price

It's hard to deal away a goalie that's been good enough to lead the franchise to their first Western Conference title and has been a big part in the team having 45 or 46 wins in each of the last 4 years.

How long ago was they Stanley cup final? Not that same goalie anymore, his mechanics are trash and now his mental game is shot. Routinely giving up a goal on the first shot is not good

Last year certainly was downhill for him but his stats and numbers were consistent his first 3 years with us. There was no reason to think he would've regressed to badly. Dell couldn't do much better either. We definitely need to address it now.

This is where metrics fail, it can’t take into account for his piss poor mechanics and horrible technique. I’ve said since his first season with the sharks his lateral mechanics were trash and his 7 hole/blocker were very weak. Teams figured it out, combined with his over aggressive play on angles was a recipe for disaster.

if he were on a super tight defensive team, like a trapping team he’d probably be fine, but those types of teams don’t win Stanley cup

Every goalie has their weak spots a weakness. You have to take into account QS, SV%, Avg goals allowed per game. Can't look at wins and saves and those very weighted statistics. I'm sticking with my opinion that Lundqvist is NOT the answer. But the issue lies in that there really is no answer out there that I can see.

If jones’ Technique and mechanics weren’t hammered dog shit I’d be inclined to agree with you. But that’s not the case, both price and Lundy are technically superior goalies who rarely give up soft goals, unlike jones which numbers support gives up softies every game

I'm supporting getting Carey Price. SV% has never been under .900 in his career, just came off a pretty decent year. My only issues are, will Montreal give him up/Do we have enough to give to get him, and, that isn't a solution, that's a temporary plug in the hole that's in the bucket. Price is 33 years old and has been playing for 13 years. He won't be playing for much longer. We need a younger option. Someone that can be our goalie and provide quality starts and play for years to come to keep up this winning streak we've been on the last 4 years. I don't know who that option is though. :-/

But do they go back to Jones or stay with Dell

I stay with Dell right now. See if we can gain some momentum and get something cooking. Knowing San Jose though, Jones is in next game.

Patty! Welcome home... maybe a little bit of a shot in the arm, but a 22 year vet can't be the season-long answer on offense. Jones looked solid last night. Never know which Jones is gonna show up, lol.

That is the sad part, for sure. Jones can play the position, we've seen that for 4 years now. But he can't play the position with any long standing consistency, which is what we need if we're gonna cap this great 5 year run off with a championship.
