The 1-4 Steelers lost another close game last week to BAL...in it, but just not making the game defining plays to win it.

No rest for the weary...the Steelers head back out west to LA LA land and facing the Chargers 2-3 who are probably feeling a little salty this week after allowing the Broncos to get their 1st win of the season on their home field.

Injuries

Coming out of a game with the Ravens, you expect some guys to be banged up and there is a list this week.

Rudolph...Concussed.. out this week after the wicked shot that most of you no doubt have seen.

Samuels...Knee...out, got his knee scoped this week, 4 weeks is the noted time he's likely to be out.

Washington...Shoulder...out. Sounds like he will be out at least 2-3 weeks. Moncrief...here is your second chance!

Barron...Hammy...likely out.

They will go with Devin Hodges at QB who came on in relief last week. Snell Jr should get more touches at RB this week. It would make sense for Moncrief to resurface this week, but also thought Rogers was a potential this week.

The Chargers are not playing at the same level they were at this time last year, but they still have the solid pieces on both sides of the ball. The DEF is ranked in the top 10, and OFC is a little further down the ranking coming in 18th.

Outlook.

It's kind of tough to get a real gauge on the Chargers in this early going. They are obviously still led by future HOF QB Rivers, and the weapons he has including his RB Melvin Gordon. On the other side of the ball, they have two great edge rushers in Joey Bosa, and Melvin Ingram. They have given up large chunks of yards on the ground in two of the 5 games played. That's something Fichtner has to be paying attention to.

Both teams will be highly motivated to get a W. Without Conner having a big night on the ground or in general, I don't see them coming back with a win. The Steeler DEF is playing at the high level right now so I expect it to be a lower scoring affair...primetime game gives me some hope, but in keeping with my trend of not projecting a loss, I will not be projecting a score for this one.

What say you?

Rivers is the last man standing this year with Ben hurt and Eli dry humping the bench. I don't like it, going all the way back out west. I think the defense will keep us in it though.

Probably no Barron in this one so VWill and Bush will be the guys inside...with a TE like Hunter Henry, I wonder why they don't throw more to the TE...only 15 targets to that position...but I do think they will try to iso Vince on the RB, Ekeler, 2nd most targeted player on the team after Keenan Allen....makes me wonder if we'll see some 3 safety pkgs with Kelly in lieu of VWill on some downs?

The pressure will be on the LAC to win this game. Steelers have struggled on the West Coast for a while now. However, last season the Chargers stole that game in Pittsburgh. Time for the Steelers to return the favor. As much as predicting a win seems impossible, the Steelers are a few questionable calls (officials/coaching/untimely fumbles) away from being 4-1 instead of 1-4. With Ben healthy, they win all 3 of these games. Until they play another stinker like the season opener, I feel like they have a chance even though it might be slim.

They haven't had Henry available. He's been out since week one I think? I don't think he's playing this week either. They usually utilize their TE heavily. Just haven't had the warm bodies this year.

VWill trying to cover Ekeler (or MG3 for that matter). Ugh...

Oh...that's why...make sense now, never saw him on a injury report, but don't recall seeing one recently either. Yep...I figure Bush would be the #1 guy on TEs, but I just know they will iso Vince on somebody in coverage. With MG out they had been going more with Ekeler with the dump offs.

FWIW...Flacco only made 20 pass attempts in that game...but boy did they pound it against them, a lot of it in between the tackles.

If one wanted to do a west coast Steelers road trip...this seems like a great one to take.

Pittsburgh is in a lot of trouble here.

Defense is actually pretty awesome now. But the Offense is the Walking Dead.

Gonna need a pair of pick-sixes. :noidea:

Well...yes they are. Bottom line, they have to give the QB a chance to win the game...of course by doing that that they also can lose the game and that's what Randy has been trying to prevent.

Time to take off the training wheels as @FaCe-LeE-uS has said and let it rip. This kid is a little more aggressive than Rudolph so it'll be interesting to see what kind of game they call for him, but he likes depth patterns in between the hash marks. (something Rudolph was not very comfortable throwing)

I think they need a heavy dose of Connor and Snell, and if they come out stacking the box...I would air it out.

The worst that can happen is they lose...something they've already done a few times now,

Not enough talent to overcome Randy Fichtner... defense will have to carry them to victory. But they won’t be ready given the timezone. Expect this one to be very ugly.

Without Barron this defense should be immensely better.

But I fear the vulnerability to the spread offenses. You can guarantee we’ll see an OLB guarding Keenan Allen many times.

You're probably right about Fichtner, but I don't think SD, err, LAC DEF is that good this yr...watching that DEN game, I think PIT can run it on them and I like this kid's MO...Hodges wants to make it happen....not that it matters, but I think they keep it closer than 18.

We shall see.

Well as we know all too well with these coaches... it doesn’t matter what they SHOULD be able to do. They always seem to do the opposite

I guess we'll know more about Rudolph based on Lynch...if he gets promoted from the PS, Rudolph will not be the backup..
